We had wanted to go to the Sandpiper for a number of years as we'd heard great things. Unfortunately, we were disappointed. There was no one around when we walked in so we had to loiter for a while. We were 15 minutes early for our booking so asked if we could have a drink in the bar first. We were told that if we sat in the bar area we would have to eat there, we wouldn't be allowed to move to another table because of covid. (The place was really quiet, could they really not manage to clean another table after we had left it?) So we went to take our place in the restaurant, only a handful of tables were taken but we were placed very close to another couple. My lamb main course was very nice followed by a lovely creme brulee. My husband's meal, the soufflé, was tiny. Luckily he had also ordered chips, but he didn't get many of them either. The wine list was good and my husband enjoyed the beer. There was no offer of bread or anything at the start of the meal, which was a shame. My husband was still hungry by the end of the meal and had to have something when we got home. The staff, especially the young girl, were very nice and friendly. It was so overdone and dry that it would be hard to describe it as anything other than murder in the 1st degree. And was a disgrace for a restaurant which should know better than to plate this up.
I promised to be nice to the waiting staff who were great and did nothing wrong. The pheasant main course was knocked off the bill but it spoiled the evening and we will not be going back.
Unpleasant pheasant which was...

It's notoriously difficult to find a decent sit-down meal around here, but this place had good reviews without being obnoxiously overpriced like a fair few other places were! Service was good, choice on the menu was decent with some interesting specials too. I went for the venison special for my main which was well presented but as venison goes it was a little bland. Prices for mains on the menu were £15-21 so I was little surprised when the bill came and my main was £27 - specials were read out to us rather than being shown on a board, so perhaps my fault for not asking. Still had a nice evening, and the rest of the food was good, just not...
