We have come to love this cafe in a very short space of time, about 3 months and 3 visits so far after years of parking and walking to Whitby for expensive Fish and chips. The food here at Sandsend Cafe is not just very good. It is above superb. Very good value for money. Lots of main protein and lots of extra salad and Coleslaw etc. There are a lot of ppl who take ages deciding only when they get to the counter staff so slow moving queues sometimes, but this is WELL WORTH A WAIT. Well worth it!! There's comfy seating indoors, semi indoors, sheltered spaces and fully outside. Nearly all have a sea view and a beach view probably over 40 miles out to sea. It is just above the beach. Nice toilet as well. It's smart. The staff are lovely. The food is to die for. I can't help myself ordering the Smoked salmon but I have to order a sandwich as the salmon salad lunch is served with salmon in a bagel and I don't like bagels. They are fine about it and I get this amazing meal with wholemal brown bread and with cream cheese and other goodies. My husband had a cheese and ham toastie with similar extra trappings. Cappuccino and tea and cold drinks are excellent. Cakes are also really homemade and above delicious. I don't even like cakes or sweet things but the date flapjack was made with a lot of butter in the biscuity bits and lovely spreading mushed dates sandwiched inside. It's irresistible. So much that we had to walk to Whitby and back to justify all the wonderful tasty calories. If you have never been here you are missing out. This is a Jenn Twenty out of Ten!!! Thankyou very much Sandsend Cafe!! 😃😃😃😋😋 See you again very soon. 😊 Here we are again about 2.30pm Sat 14th Sept 2024 a lovely sunny warm day again, 19 degrees and I just had to have the salmon again. Yum yum yum yum yum. Lovely food, lovely drinks, amazing cakes. I'm such a piggy. I made it to Whitby along the beach but I cudnt make it back as my knees are just too painful so my lovely husband went and got the car. It was as always a very very good experience in every way. Tues 17th Sep 24. Here's me again just sneaking down here from Pickering. If you visit Whitby area, or even just Yorkshire Or England or the U. K. Or Europe, the globe? Your have to come here. Can't stay away. Just meet a chap who bought a house here he likes Sandsend and this cafe so much. I'm working on my...
Read moreThis cafe advertises that it is open until 4.15. We entered the cafe at 3.25pm this afternoon and stood in a queue until just after 3.30pm. Just as the lady in front of me had finished being served and had paid for her food and refreshments including sandwiches, an older women who I recognised from their website as the owner came up to the young girl serving and looked at myself and the other four or five people in the queue and just said no more food.
I was next to be served and asked for sandwiches and was told they had stopped serving food. I protested but I may as well been talking to the floor because there was no interest at all in what I was saying and the girl turned to serve the man behind me.
Outside this pretentious establishment is a sign bemoaning a shortage of staff and asking customers to show respect to their staff who have turned up for work. Well Karen and Neil how about showing some respect for your customers first.
It is clear that this establishment makes so much money that they don't care about letting their customers down. If you say you are open then serve your menu.
Neil & Karen instead of bragging about what Conde Nast says about your crab sandwiches how about getting the basic of hospitality and customer service right as well as simple courtesy.
I wouldnt know if Conde Nast are correct as I couldn't taste one of your crab sandwiches due to your...
Read moreI spoke to my friends about the cafe and they had similar veiws to mine, she told me she was in the queue at 2.50 waiting there for 10mins to get her order in, food closed at 3, therefore when she FINALLY got to the desk they sternly turned her away which was very disappointing at they only wanted a quick sandwich! On my experience we had just walked in, the cafe had no information on its food closing, we were all starving! So I tried to order a sandwich by that time it was too late to leave as they had made the drinks but to turn away good money for 2 slices of bread and any cheese or ham was simply ridiculous, and then as we were leaving on this cold windy day a holiday maker walked in and to his surprise they said ITS SHUT whilst customers were ordering and eating their cakes! So he had to walk back in the cold, given there was no indication of closing they could have offered him a drink but the staff probably wanted to leave early... so I can’t say that they impressed me at all I think the staff should be friendlier to the locals as I’m...
