A cosy little place...
Called in for a takeaway today, breakfast bap (cob, barm or whatever you want to call it) was my meal of choice.
The open-style kitchen was clean and well organised. The rustic charm of the dining area made me smile with warmth (this is added warmth to the hot weather) which was very well presented.
The food - well I'll take each component here...
Bap - Soft and fresh, maybe a bit too fresh for baked beans. Became soggy when introduced to bean juice.
Sausage - lovely texture and well cooked. Full of flavour.
Mushrooms - well cooked, although didn't taste buttery. This may be my personal preference as I love my shrooms cooked in butter. I do understand the price of butter may not make this feasible.
Beans - Standard baked beans, nothing fancy.
Bacon - This was the only thing I can really fault. Some people love thick, juicy bacon. This is what you get here. It just doesn't work on a bap. The issue is that once you bite into it, the bacon dragged out some mushrooms and beans. Slightly too salty for my taste - but I prefer smoked bacon. My suggestion would be to keep a small quantity of smoked back bacon and/or streaky for sandwiches.
Egg - wonderfully cooked, the yolk popped and dribbled down my chin, the way it should be!
This place gets 4 stars, a bit more choice on bacon preference is my only real issue. A well run place by friendly staff. The price is very reasonable, I can't wait to sit in next time and get the...
Read moreWent here for breakfast 🍳 a couple of days ago for the first time, I was quite impressed with the layout of the place looked clean and fresh and a nice place to eat your breakfast. The food looked like it was cooked fresh not sure on that but that’s what impression I got was reasonable and polite.
I think the only thing that let it down for me, was the coffee ☕️ not impressed with the idea of using skimmed milk 🥛 in a cup of coffee at all loses its taste and is like adding coloured water to it, I think being given the option of having full fat or skimmed would be a good idea. Bearing in mind the competition which is around like Wetherspoons where you pay for a coffee and can drink as much as you like with a high selection. Overall, a very good place to go for...
Read moreReally wanted to like this as it was an old local joint which served us well in the past but unfortunately as the prices have gone up the quality has gone down. My husband and a breakfast wrap with was all temps from cold to scorching hot , it was bland the ingredients were cheap. The bacon was more fat than meat. I had a cheese and onion cob which came as a build your own it seems as there was so little " butter " nothing stuck to the bread , huge chunks of onion which would have been fine had the cheese been able to stand up to the challenge. There's a cob shop in Wigston next to B&M that do a proper cheese and onion cob so I'd do the...
