We were walk-in customers and since it was a weeknight, they were able to accommodate us easily. Our B&B host recommended Spice and we were looking forward to it based on her high praise. She was not wrong. The decor is understated, but elegant, layered linen table clothes, nice lighting, comfy seating, impeccable service and attention to detail. Though we many times go for the more challenging super spicy Indian food, tonight we decided to stay basic, and enjoy the subtle milder spiciness. Each restaurant has its own personality, and additions but we were pleasantly surprised to be served a salad plate with our samosas. We split a single order but received two on separate plates, a nice touch. We followed with Lamb Tika Masala, which was thick, slightly sweet, and had a wonderful balance of spices. One of the best versions of this dish we've had. The Saag paneer was perfect, had a little more kick, but not too much. We paired that with rich and enjoyed every bite. With drinks the bill was just over 30Ł.

Spices easily accommodated a 10 seated table with no problem. With fantastic service and huge variety of classic and unique Indian dishes. I and the whole table was really impressed with the food. The service was excellent with always someone to hand walking by or checking up on us. Our party went on a Thursday night and there were other tables too but the quantity of food was no problem! Being in the centre of Datchet, you can't miss the restaurant and if you haven't been then definitely try something mild and spicy in Spices Indian Cuisine Restaurant.

Freshly cooked food and very good customer service. The food in the UK is currently the worst it's been in 30 years. Rarely do you find a restaurant where you are served freshly cooked food. At the Spices they actually made an effort and it was rather pleasant. We will return and eat here again. Highly recommended.

I hardly ever post on but feel compelled after this experience at SPICES in Datchet

Visited this so called restaurant on Sunday evening.....service levels are shocking!!!!!!!

Waiters seated us in darkest table in an empty Restaurant. We ordered drinks, poppadums’ and chutneys and then moved onto the starters which took 30 mins to arrive, this is after speaking to the waiter who was rushing us 7.15pm to order to mains at the same time to save time!!!!!!!!!!!! We said no we here for relaxing meal and want to take our time …..anyhow he didn’t have no clue or manners and did not even know what was in the mixed grill?????

Then the starters arrived burnt meat!!!!! and a side salad which we never ordered! Sly staff tactics.

Then whilst half through my starter the useless waiter turned up asking for us to order our mains!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Man how about asking how is your starters! Oh yes the meat is burnt can you not see?

Then final straw unbelievable..... went to order mains....and although we were not happy and our 7-year wanted to leave we needed to eat an meal of something as it was around 8.30pm!

Anyhow we ordered a chicken/ lamb mince dish and 3 naans and another side salad…..and the waiter was like just one dish….can you order more as we have costs and to make more money!

That was it I told him ….we 2 adult and a 7 year who need eat and make an exit….that is plenty and I have never been spoken to like that by any restaurant staff ever you lack manners completely and given I have an issue with you get your manager now! The waiter came back around and said everything is ok I just spoke to manager and he fine with it? I was like ‘You what fine with what?”…..at that point we already decided to pay up and leave asap (yes they would have spat or do something to our food I am sure)…we just said bill now!

The waiter took his sweet time and called our to another waiter who witness this all and brought over the manager - who asked me what has happened? I was like ask him (pointing at the useless waiter), has he not told you what is going on? The manager said no nothing? I said ‘So he is lying now to you too!

What a Show or stupidity!

The manager briefly spoke to the useless waiter in Bengali and apologised continually and added that it was his fault for not being there (evidently, he does not trust that useless waiter too). We paid in full for the starter and what we had to drink/ eat - never been so insulted ever

My wife noted and overheard another couple complaining about the service and food too…….maybe they left soon after seeing us

Total horrible experience….bad food, bad service and bad manners. Spices management take note!

SHAME ON YOU!!!!!!!!!!!!!

We received a warm welcome and were seated quickly. We ordered our food and it was bland. We spoke to a waiter and asked for a little more salt and spices. The operational word being 'little.' The channa masala dish came back loaded with red chilli, green chilli, jalapeños and, chilli powder. It was so overpowering it ruined the dish. They did offer to check whether the level of spice was okay but there was little point sending the dish back as we would have never got to eat at that rate. Why I am never returning? The waiter was in a hurry to change the table cloth when we finished. So much so that he knocked a glass of water over which poured onto my leg. The left leg of my jeans from the knee down was soaked. The waiter was more concerned with cleaning the floor by me than acknowledging the damage. The waiter offered me some paper towels to soak it up but that didn't make a difference. No apology was made at any point and all he said was "the glass slipped." The bill was then brought over and they charged us full price. We paid it but will not be returning to this...

The food was very nice indeed, at a reasonable price, and that's the main thing.

The service was rather perfunctory and inefficient, we had to ask for water three times and I was waiting to take some tablets. In fact, the food arrived before the water. And it was not as if we had not ordered paid-for drinks as well - they came very quickly. Of course, it's good that the food and other drinks came quickly but I hate not being able to get water in a restaurant.

The menu could be a lot clearer. There were a number of dishes which I did not know and the descriptions were all of a general type such as "chicken cooked in our chef's special way with Indian spices" which told us nothing really. There are no symbols or descriptions to tell us how hot each dish might be. The waiter was equally unable or unwilling to give us any further details and basically told us what he thought we should have. The music, which was rather too loud, can only be described as dreadful, being very bad covers of early 60s hits played on a keyboard to a syncopated cha-cha beat, with...
