The Royal Stag — Restaurant in England

A nice but a bit disappointing experience. Booked for a table of 10 - the table was set for 8. I asked for 2 more sets of cutlery on 2 or 3 separate occasions but it never came so eventually we found some ourselves (even if they had pointed out where a cutlery station was that would have been helpful). No sauces / salt & pepper etc was delivered to our table like the other tables, so again I had to go up and ask for the basket thing with them in. The food itself was quite bland. In particular the chicken & bacon pasta main and the king prawn starter - all of us who had these commented how a sauce would have made it much much nicer and less oil. The seafood linguine was not great either - it was passed round the table to see if someone would like to finish it but nobody found it very appetising. The pie, burgers and pork ribeyes seemed to be enjoyed though. The place itself was pleasant and the waitresses were generally friendly albeit evidently forgetful with our cutlery / sauces etc. I can’t say it was worth the £350+ we paid for it but maybe it would have been more enjoyable with just drinks. Service was very slow. It took over an hour from ordering to getting the starter. When the mains arrived (again, a long delay), some of the food we'd ordered was missing and by the time it arrived I had finished my meal.

The food was just 'OK', but no better.

When we asked for the dessert menu, they were brought but we were told that we would either have a very long wait (someone had already waited over an hour for garlic bread the waitress told us), or we could just forget it. So, we just forgot it in the end as it was getting too late to eat anyway.

The waitress also told us that the chef was having a very bad day and that she didn't want to go into the kitchen to ask for desserts!

After the meal, we started to leave. By this time there were many young men with dogs gathered and we had to pass them to get out. We did not feel safe at all and couldn't get out of there quick enough.

I give two stars instead of one because the waitresses were trying but were completely overwhelmed. Also, the food was warm and not cold when it finally...

I've been here a few times with a friend for a drink and meal. Great staff, good beer, good food. The problem is that each time we've been there has been a group of very loud blokes, sometimes literally shouting at the top of their voices demanding service, or throwing drinks around that hit us. We've mentioned the noise to the staff who shrug and say yes it does get noisy. They do nothing about it. I've seen other reviews that mention this also, but can't now find those reviews.
