On the evening of the Christmas lights switch on my three year old daughter and I were walking down the high street and she wanted to sit down for a couple of minutes so she could finish her food and I could help her redo up her shoes. Unfortunately there were no benches available so I briefly sat her on one of the chairs outside the cafe whilst I helped her sort out her food and shoes. I wouldn’t have done this if there were lots of (or any) customers but the cafe was completely empty - in fact I thought it was closed - so I didn’t think it would be of any detriment to them if my three year old sat on one of the chairs outside for a few minutes. A man came out and very rudely barked at her to move if we weren’t going to buy anything. I completely understand if he didn’t want us on the chair (although it made no difference to his business as it was empty) but the way he went about asking us to move was completely inappropriate. I’m not surprised there was nobody in the cafe. If he’d have politely asked that we purchase something in order to stay I would have bought a drink. He was definitely not in the Christmas spirit and my daughter left upset on what should have been a happy and fun night for her. It was just a little disappointing he couldn’t have been a bit more pleasant about it, particularly when it was obvious a young child just needed a minute to sit down, we were outside the shop not it in, and there were zero customers so we weren’t preventing anyone else from using the chair or stopping...
Read moreClean, no frills cafe, ok staff (some youngsters / fams) and price level.
Do need to be more attentive and observant though.....we noticed a family enter, they checked the menu and appeared to agree on choices and stood waiting in a small queue. But for a kind few words from any staff front of house these potential customers would have waited as they were next in line, however, they didn't receive any "thanks for waiting, we'll be with you shortly" and they simply left the cafe.....lost business, maybe £20.00 worth?! There's numerous pleasant cafe's in Dav, no need scrimp on the courtesy and niceties, it will break your customer facing business especially when you're competing with SO many other very local cafe establishments.
We will go back Tho', as former Tea Room owner /proprietors (Ret) we appreciate it's all a learning curve and this place can get a good 'foothold' if it bones-up on it's customer service awareness &...
