The hotel is in a superb location. The sea view outside over the bar over the beach is spectacular. We were recommended by someone who works in a Polzeath bar who said their pizzas were the best they'd ever had. A bold endorsement indeed! We arrived at 4.20pm unsure of when food was being served and were informed that it was not until 5pm. The Atlantic website had everything apart from the times that food is served. A basic website error! Our friends wanted to leave but I persuaded them to stay as the pizzas looked so good (I'm a pizza snob) Ollie the barman was superb. He even supplied me with a takeaway box to use as a hat for my head as it was burning in the sun! Ollie said that the pizzas would be served quickly which persuaded our impatient friends to stay and eat. We ordered three pizza at 5pm which were served within 15 minutes. I suffer from a condition called misophonia - which is basically a form of claustrophobia when you are next to people who are 'loud'. Ollie understood this and so when I asked if we could move to a quiet place he did so without hesitation and put us in the lounge area which was perfect. As well as Ollie, all staff at the Atlantic were excellent. Sadly the food was not quite up to the standard of the staff. The pizza was 'OK', but lacking in cheese and base overcooked. However, the skin on fry chips were excellent. Overall, the Atlantic is well worth a visit. Thank you Ollie and staff for a very enjoyable visit 👍

Meh. It's a fabulous location with beautiful sea views and stunning sunsets. But these things are not down to great management or top quality food. You can enjoy these for free from the cliffs. Given these are one of the main reasons to visit, it's odd that, on a beautifully sunny Spring evening they were surprised at the amount of customers to turned up. Despite the fact the place was still only half full, the kitchen couldn't cope with the food orders and we had to wait ages at the bar. They were unprepared and under staffed. This became our problem of course. Told main meals/pizzas would take an hour to arrive. Fine, we were in no mad rush so accepted this and ordered a meat platter starter to keep up going. Of course, this then turned up later along with our main so we didn't need it afterall. This is a badly managed place with stressed staff and, despite the high prices, we still had to ask for Cutlery. Come on, train your staff! Will we go back again? Probably.... because it has an amazing view and a nice vibe. Still left a bad taste in our mouths though. BTW, the food was average.

The view alone could deliver 4 stars and as we had a premium table, outside on the upper tier, the vista that stretched into sunset was quite wonderful. The menu is that of early days but with real promise of what's to come but by no means an excuse. The service, a little inconsistent at times but a team doing well under the circumstance and immeasurably helpful and friendly. The food, we dined out on one of the 20 inch courgette pizzas and have most of the small plates to try things out. The pizza was a triumph, no other words for it. The small plates were all good, but some were just better. The hero's were the arancini. We re-ordered at least twice! My mouth was crying out for some truffle shavings or quality oil, a personal thing. The squid was beautifully cooked but lacked a punch of something and a little under seasoned. The bread, meats and pork belly would keep any food lover busy with a smile and did I mention the view. This place will just get better and better. Make it a visit.

My partner had booked a table here having done some online research and read the positive reviews. However Our experience was anything but good, despite having booked a table and had to give card details just to make a reservation. We were kept waiting at the door for 15mins only to be given a table right next to a family of 4. This would have been understandable if the restaurant wasn't mostly empty. We had to ask to sit one table over so as not to be clashing elbows with strangers. This then took another ten minute be seated to move one table over.

Eventually the food arrived the "charcuterie board" was a very bland ham and salami that had over 25 gherkins on them, including all the pickling juices from the jar. £15 for what looked like Tesco's package food swimming in pickling juices wasn't a great start.

The inside of the restaurant was also very cold in April as unlike the balcony there is no sun inside but the April breeze at 10 degrees blows straight in the eating area. It didn't feel like a premium dinning experience sat with all the dinners sat with their coats on shivering

The good news is it lowered our expectations enough we weren't totally shocked by the average to poor stake and chips at £31 and mackerel with raw cabbage and orange segments.

The basic food was over complicated trying to be trendy, if you want strong money for the food you serve at least serve passable food that is enjoyable to eat.

Overall we left feeling slightly queezy from pickle juiced ham and mostly ripped off as the food was overall terrible. It was particularly frustrating that we wanted to walk on the beach at sunset but the service was so slow we went to the till after waiting 35mins with the plates still on our table as no one could be bothered to clear them.

In summary don't waste money eating here. Maybe get a drink and sit and enjoy the view as it is a stunning spot. But everything that wasn't down to mother nature...

The Atlantic is in a beautiful location. The restaurant itself was attractive, clean and there was a good atmosphere. The servers were young, friendly with a good attitude. There is a large car park about a 3 minute walk away, but note that it is not free at any time. There is free street parking out of season (Oct to March). However, we were very disappointed with the food. We had pizza’s and chips. The chips were tasty but the portions small for the cost. The food was ridiculously overpriced. We decided to share 2 x 20 inch pizza (and 2 portions of chips) between 4 of us However, we were informed that they did not have gluten free 20 inch pizza bases because the bases came pre-done and they only had the smaller bases for gluten free pizza. This is very disappointing…for that price you would expect that the pizza was made fresh on site, not some prepackaged ready made base that was heated up. The 20’inch looked huge but the base was so thin and the toppings were sparse. My husband ate 3/4 of a 20 inch and chips and was still left hungry. The bases were burnt in places and the toppings were sparse. One of my children left so much of the pizza as the crusts were large (not thick just wide) and were just too dry to eat that amount of base with no topping on. My other child only had one slice as it was so dry and tasteless…and my children are not fussy eaters, and love pizza . There was no salt or pepper on the table, and no sauces brought out or offered. We had to ask and then the servers brought out one small portion of mayonnaise and one small portion of ketchup between 8 of us, so we kept having to ask them to bring more which was embarrassing. My husband and I didn’t complain about the pizza as we were with another family and we did not want to create an awkward atmosphere for them or us by complaining. Myself my husband and the children all left hungry and disappointed. Overpriced and...

We never write reviews, however our experience at this place was so poor we wanted to warn others!

My husband and I booked a table for 8:30pm. We didn’t get seated until nearing 9pm, and had to call over staff to order our food after waiting another considerable amount of time to order once finally seated. We finally get our food at 10pm, 1.5 hours after our reservation. Baring in mind we only ordered PIZZA’s. The service was appalling. Not once did anyone come to check on us, see whether we needed anything, or even basics like take our order. Every time we had to request attention and call a member of staff over.

What surprised us the most was the callas lack of care on service. After eating, we requested for a box to take away the rest of our pizzas and to pay the bill, the place was fairly quiet at this point, and after waiting at least another 10 minutes with no return, my husband tried to call over the member of staff again, by which we repeatedly got given a nod of “just a moment” and then continued to stand around and laugh with their Co-workers. Crazy! After continuing to wait, we ended up paying at the till, which also included them not sticking to a prior agreement of taking at least the drinks off the bill due to our wait.

After having previously worked in both waitressing and retail myself, so had much training when it comes to customer service, I’ve never known anything like it!

The pizza’s were good, and we enjoyed the food. However, the service was so appalling and careless that we will NOT be returning and will recommend others NOT to visit.

A real shame as it has a lot of potential, yet the service seriously lets...
