Well, deleted my previous 5 star review to replace it with this, which is a huge shame. I don't know what's been going on but things just seem to have really gone down hill to the point that the last time I went will probably be my last. I turned up with a friend. We were actually meeting a group but turned up early to have dinner. In the past the food had been awesome but now the menu seems to barely be hanging on. Apparently its down to supply issues. I'm not seeing the same issues at the other pubs I go to. The reduced menu meant that there were no vegetarian options at all and for me friend even the rest of the menu was extremely limited. After some nagging of the cook, I was told they'd found some frozen 'vegan fish things' or could do me a beetroot salad.

Add to that the toilets weren't their usual clean state, all the old staff seem to have gone and some of the new ones are downright unfriendly (one tried to suggest that a handicapped member of our group with a walker should take a long route around the pub involving 4 steps instead of the flat route, because of a minor water leak. I pointed the issue out to him but he was insistent. We chose to ignore him).

It's a shame when a 5 star review becomes a 1...

Used to be the place I would always go to for good food and good drink, unfortunately it went downhill rapidly when there was a change of management, now there's only one beer on tap (Fosters) and the food and service is ok at best. I used to recommend The Cloisters to everyone, now I'd tell everyone to avoid it like the plague. A sad end to a once great pub.

Edit: The Cloisters is now The Bell And Crown and I feel I should edit my original review. I've changed it from 1 to 5 stars, because it's gone through a massive change and it's so much for the better. There's an excellent range of beers, it's not a massive range but they have a helping of traditional ales and a couple of crafts, if you fancy a change, also there's a nice range of lagers. Food is excellent once again. The new people running it are doing an excellent job at breathing life back into it. I really hope it works out well for them and that I can...

First experience of this pub was awful, Myself and hubby went in and my hubby went to the bar to order a drink.. a coke and a pint of madri, the barman poured over half the pint of madri and was looking rather suspicious so my hubby made out he wasn’t looking while still keeping a close eye! The barman swapped the glass he had already started to be poured and pulled out one from behind the bar and swapped them My husband confronted him and asked him why he swapped the beers over and the barman replied he had poured it earlier by mistake and didn’t want to waste it….which made absolutely no sense because he had already started pouring a fresh one before he swapped for the one under the bar So in effect he is still wasting a pint Very strange and very dodgy Will not be...

You know it's a good review when I'm happy to post it before leaving. It has been a sweltering day in Salisbury and this was my last attempt to find a place to eat and relax. The staff are wonderfully welcoming, attentive, polite and sincere. I get the impression they're family perhaps but I'm wrong. They clearly have an appreciation for the precarious art of blending old English pubs with contemporary trends. The crowd was young to old, the food was uncomplicated and satisfying and they had a great beer, wine and cocktails menu. They even made me a decaf espresso martini. I'm from London, get over it. 🤣

As our last meal in Salisbury, this was certainly worth the wait. Chips were big chunky skin on ones, the BBQ sauce on the hunters chicken was one of the best I've ever had, and the portion sizes generous without being offputing. At our request one hunters chicken was served without the sauce and the man behind the bar was very helpful with any requests. Rhubarb gin was just the ticket too. If you are wandering around Salisbury, i'd recommend wandering in the direction of the cloisters to eat.🤗

Lovely local vintage pub great atmosphere and good service bar staff friendly and quick to serve and make you feel welcome. Tried the food last night and would recommend the salt & pepper squid and the apple and blackcurrant crumble and the sticky toffee pudding. Went for the Sunday dinner today was amazing fast service great tasting roast lamb. Nephew had roast chicken and loved it also.
