We popped up Christmas Eve for my birthday. It's a lovely little pub, however the staff really let it down. I work in a pub myself I know how stressful it can be do work over Christmas dealing with drunk people but the service we received was hostile from the beginning.

There was 10 of us so lots of drinks where being ordered all pints and gins. My sister had a cold and asked for a hot water to quickly down a lemsip so she could carry on drinking. The gentle man behind the bar got a right hump on about it. I appreciate it can be inconvenient but there's a sign selling tea and coffee so unfortunately it's your job So he huffed and puffed and said all I can give you is a tap water.

I asked how much small bottles of prosecco are occasionally they can be very expensive for what it is as my friend was buying me a drink. I said ok no worries I'll have a Bombay as there was a bottle on the shelf the woman with short hair snatched it off the side and said sorry don't have any. So I said I'll have a Thatchers this was off and watery. The girl was like well you have to have asprall then with an attitude. I spoke to this woman in the toilets who apologized for her attitude

After that we paid has a drink there was no way we was staying for another one. I spoke to a woman with glasses and dark hair to explain how I was unhappy with the service I get what it's like to work in a pub I don't know if this woman was a manager or not but she is not fit to work in a pub she was vile. As I explained how I felt the staff to he hostile and rude she was nodding her head going mmhmm mhmm. I looked at her and said you don'tcare do you? To her response to be no not really we don't care for people like you who come in once a year. I was gob smacked what used to be a lovely little pub is now staffed with rude argoant hostile unprofessional staff extremely disappointed. They no longer need to worry about 'people like us' who come in once a year as we don't...

Avoid at all costs…. Shocking!! Told no availability later than 6pm as busy so booked early. We were then the only table being used in whole restaurant for food 🍲 Turns out chef/ cowboy/ manager fancied an early night as he’d left site by 7:30 when we decided that enough was enough so needed to complain. Although he was seen hiding in the upstairs areas from the garden, clearly to embarrassed to front up for the dreadful food he had just produced. Instead left it to his front of house colleagues to apologise and completely agree that the service had indeed been terrible. Had to reorder 3 times due availability issues not described when we sat down. To be fair starters were good and we though that the worst was behind us… How wrong we were. These are not Wetherspoons prices but would have still complained if they were, kids food was ok and the liver and bacon was passable. The rest was bloody awful. Decided to complain but informed manager / cowboy / chef had left site. Not true as seen from garden in his upstairs window. Bar staff were rightfully embarrassed and even had a joke with me about calling the police if my suggestion about paying for drinks only and nothing else was agreeable. Front of house team obviously destroyed and demoralised by working is such a poor environment, it’s hardly a surprise that they give off the impression that they don’t give a shit… This is poor leadership form the manager hiding upstairs claiming to be a chef and leaving his team to cary the can. Please do not make the same mistake as...

I arrived at 10.20pm but was advised by the lady in charge (on 12th Sept) that no further orders were being taken despite the opening hours being advertised until 11.30. I had the feeling they couldn't be bothered to continue serving and wanted to wrap up early. I didn't make a fuss but was quite disappointed and won't bother again.

Edit: following the response from the pub (which is perhaps equally rude as the response I received on that evening), the early finish was absolutely not communicated to me on the evening by the staff. And I would like to point out there were other drinkers present, which also underlines that Covid protocol (which is being used as a very convenient get out clause for poor customer service these days) was not to blame. And if it was, then perhaps you should have received that fine after all then? An apology with more understanding of the actual situation (or a desire to learn more about what actually happened) would have been nice. I would urge anyone to...

We chose this restaurant based on the prior reviews and regret our choice. We had the fish and chip dinner. The fish batter was too moist/not crisp. In addition, service was minimal re: refilling glasses (not done at all), clearing plates, providing the bill, etc. We did not feel that the wait staff wanted to have customers. The dinner was nicely presented and the decor/seating areas were fine, hence the 3 stars. If given the choice, we would not return.

Solid lunch spot classic British pub experience, though it's far more geared towards food! One of the best hunters chicken I've ever had, simple menu but effective Decent location short walk from the world famous cathedral with the 123m spire They played the grand national which many people enjoyed but we didn't, it lead to people screaming as we ate our lunch The toilets were a bit grimey tbh though I enjoyed the novelty condom machine

Absolutely beautiful, cosy little pub! Me and my partner came here for the first time on Thursday and we had a truly wonderful evening. We had food, which was absolutely incredible! Nice big portion sizes and really delicious, good quality food. The service was great and the drinks were lovely too. We loved our time here and will definitely be back in future 😍 highly recommend.
