Traveled quite few miles as it was a nice day to visit as we have found it good in the past. Oh dear, not today, bar associate tried to give me a beer taster out of a pump with a big label on it "Not in use - cleaning in progress" which she removed to try and serve from the pump! Unbelievable, I chose a different one of course. Meals were not very warm, let alone hot, onion rings cremated, peas dried out and cool, chips cool and soft, pepper sauce cold as were the plates. The tomato and peas were missing from the steak meal. We did, after varying delays, get some warm peas and pepper sauce but never got the replacement onion rings. My wife said the steak and jacket potato were "edible" and I did enjoy the piece of fish and a pint. I obtained a refund for 1 meal but overall not an enjoyable experience. We frequent several different spoons and sadly they all seem to have gone downhill with very poor standards since lockdown? Very often there is an extremely limited choice of ale as well with the response from staff "the lines need cleaning" or "there's 2 waiting to go on but I have not got around to it". Sad really. We now choose to mostly use other venues - the bill maybe 25 to 50% higher but generally far more...
Read morePre pandemic I would go there for coffee with friends and the annual alcoholic beverage, drinking to excess with a fellow veteran after paying our respects at the local Remembrance Parade and service whilst remembering friends who never came home from tour and those fallen in other conflicts. Many, many pints and shots consumed in a great atmosphere. Post pandemic and I was less than impressed. Ten minutes out in the rain waiting for staff to open the side gate which is the disabled access. 20 minutes inside trying to get staff attention waiting for my order to be taken. 20 minutes was enough and I left. I'll try again in a while but for the first time back after over a year, was less than impressed. If you're a wheelchair user the set up to get in is sh1t. The bell to get the gate open is at the front of the pub and not by the gate at the side and it's quite a slope over blind assistance paving slabs to get to the double doors which are never both unbolted so you have to get peoples attention to unbolt the door just to get in. . Nothing short of idiotic and despite saying every time I go to get a bell at the side gate, still nothing. Bottom line....It's a Wetherspoons establishment,...
Read moreOver an hour wait for food, shift manager was rude when questioned about the wait, she said that 2 of the 4 kitchen staff was trainees and she couldn’t do anything about it! I asked why none of the other managers could assist in the kitchen and she said they weren’t kitchen trained, I pointed out that she just told me half the kitchen staff wasn’t trained! There was 4 staff members waiting by the hot plate with no food to deliver and staff behind an empty bar, only half the restaurant was full and they were already struggling! Why rota on 2 trainees on a Saturday if they can’t cope, why aren’t managers able to help out in areas that are struggling? The pub manager and the area manager need to review today, find out why the service is so poor and make sure it never happens again, might also be worth employing shift managers who have customer service skills and can actually manage a team when things don’t run smoothly, this lady was well out of her...
