The Chinese Garden Restaurant — Restaurant in England

We visited with friends on Friday 25th March. We have been many times before and had great food and service if somewhat pricey. On this occasion we all ordered Soup which took 40minutes to arrive. It was fine. It took another 45 minutes foe the main course to arrive and prior to that we sere advised that the £12 plus dish of Yang Chow rice would only be a small portion. At the price I discussed this with the waiter. Our food was not up to standard. The chilli crispy beef was well overcooked and tasted totally different than normal, the beef with black bean sauce was tough and tasteless, the other two dishes were fine but small portions. We complained but as the owner approached us she was distracted by another customer and was talking to them for over 10minutes. We decided to settle the Bill and as we got up to leave the owner came to us, made a poor apology about the food served, said nothing about the poor service and mentioned she would do something for us next time. Absolutely appalling experience here, if I could give 0 stars I would. We sat down at 6:40, we waited 20 minutes for our drink orders to be taken and finally got our starters an hour and a quarter after we ordered them. We were told the long wait was because of the “steam time” for the dumplings, which was obviously bs. The dumplings were undercooked and very chewy. We sat down a good while before a large table of about 6/8 people. We saw their main courses come out and were confused as we had been waiting 45 minutes for our mains, and we were told they were going to begin cooking them once the large table had had theirs, even though prior to this, we were told the orders were done in a list of priority. By my way of thinking, if one order is taken before another, that order is the priority. We ended up leaving and my mother ended up ill from the pork dumplings she was served. NEVER GO HERE...

Very disappointing. Used to be the best place for miles around years ago. I went in with a friend yesterday and everything in the menu was £3 more to sit in. £7 for a starter??? We eventually decided to get a takeaway instead so wish we hadn't got a drink first from the bar, that just added to the price. After waiting in reception for 35 minutes the food was then very sub-standard. My friend couldn't even eat his Salt and Pepper ribs as they were all soggy so they went in the bin. I had Cantonese fillet steak and it came in a very thin sauce and the portion was half what I'd had from other places and mostly onions.
