It was clean and tidy. Easy to order on the app and drinks arrived promptly. Floor staff were pleasant and helpful. That's where the good stuff ends! We waited 45 minutes for our food. I could instantly see that despite the batter being overcooked, that my daughter's fish was not cooked (it was raw in the middle, common when they put too much fish in the fryer at the same time). The chips were rubbery and had been under the hot hold for quite some time. My other daughter had a double chicken burger, one burger was cooked to perfection but the other was cold. The bun contained a nice grey hair too & none of us have grey hair. One of us waited 20 minutes longer than the rest despite ordering at the same time and despite being told that it was sat in the kitchen waiting for someone to bring it out. The eggs were rubbery, the sausages were not Wetherspoons sausages, (they must have been bought in from elsewhere) the beans were almost non existent and again the chips were rubbery. We asked to speak to the manager who was rude and abrupt and basically said it was our own fault for actually wanting to eat! (And he took his mask off while being rude) Apparently they were busy because of the rule of having to eat with alcohol but the majority of people had no food or empty plates on their tables but plenty of empty glasses and those that did want to eat had finished. And they only came out with food 6 times, 2 of which were ours. Thankfully we recieved a refund and were able to leave to eat elsewhere. Would...
Read moreUpdated to add: Increasingly that answer to "i'd like a pint of X please" (where X is a beer or cider advertised on the pump clips) the answer is "sorry, it's not on". The trigger for this review update, however, is that they have two outside beer gardens, one for smokers and one for non smokers. On making bar staff aware that people were smoking in the non smoking garden we were informed that they allow it on Fri/Sat. If the signs in the garden said that then fair enough, we could make appropriate decisions, but they don't. Bottom line, there are better Spoons in Peterborough and we'll go there in future.

It is what it is, a town centre Wetherspoons. If you're looking for something else you'll be disappointed! But it's good at what it does and always has a decent range of drinks at good prices and the usual decent food.
For somewhere quieter I prefer the Drapers Arms, and the ale is better there. But this is a different pub and serves a different purpose (part of which is keeping the masses out of Drapers!)
At peak times, it's loud and busy and it can be hard to get to the massive bar. That's a sign that something is right, not wrong. At quieter times it's a good alternative to Drapers and better lit if you want a quiet(ish) pint to keep your...
Read moreBen the manager is the most ignorant bar tender I’ve ever met. He overheard a private conversation between my friends in which one of them call the other a B•••• in jest. He thought it was aimed at him and refused to serve us. Please note he didn’t kick us out though (weird). We tried to be reasonable and clarify that the comment was not aimed at him, it was a joke between two girls but he refused to listen and was extremely rude in his demeanour. Clearly my friend wasn’t that rude otherwise he would have kicked her out. Basically he was ear wigging on a private conversation, his feelings were hurt when he misinterpreted it and he decided to use the only power he has and refuse a peaceful group of people drinks under the guise of the girl in question being drunk (she most certainly wasn’t) - WORST MANAGER AWARD GOES TO BEN of PETERBOROUGH WEATHERSPOONS (COLLEGE ARMS).
Additionally, the place has no atmosphere (they don’t have a music license), the floor is sticky and the toilets smell like s* (don’t take that comment personally Ben, it isn’t aimed at you). If you are making a guide on the worst places to visit in the North Hemisphere (Simply Peterborough isn’t enough) then this place would be a highlight…so much wrong it’s almost...
