The Crew Café — Restaurant in England

We came in on a Saturday midday. There were alot of dirty plates scattered around, but it was busy so understandable. We went to order 2 breakfasts but were unable to swap any of the items so opted for the build you own. My coffee came which was good, the water we ordered never came. The breakfasts came and were very basic. The sausages were overdone and terrible quality. The bacon was fine. The poached egg was more like a rubber bouncy ball that had been kicked round the kitchen. You got a good amount of beans though. No cutlery. We asked for cutlery and were pointed to the counter. The dirty plates were still there for the duration of time we stayed. The staff weren’t terrible but not friendly or particularly helpful. We won’t be retuning. A simple; have a nice day, or telling us where the cutlery was when we ordered, or having some sort of pride in your work goes a long way. No proactiveness what so ever. I appreciate these jobs may be temporary but we won’t be coming back because of these reasons, we will be returning to places that seem to want customers. Food was sub par and so was the service. On business trip and drove from Stafford. Asked someone local and she recommended the Crew Café as did not want the usual standard run of the mill food. I must say first impressions went a long way as it was spotlessly clean, staff very welcoming and accommodating with lots of choice of home cooked, freshly prepared food. Although it was busy the service was very prompt and again extremely friendly staff. Food was fantastic and lots of it for the very good price. I would not normally write a review but felt compelled to do so as everything about this café was first class. Other diners were also very pleased and told me that they go the extra mile and will do their best to cater outside of the menu too. Super place and wholeheartedly recommended! A hidden gem! Overall, the food is decent, with some highlights like the cakes, which are particularly good. The breakfast can be a bit on the greasy side and doesn't always feel like the best value for money.

However, what could really improve the experience here is the service and the time it takes to get a coffee. The staff can come across as unfriendly and not particularly enthusiastic about serving customers. On one occasion, I noticed a staff member laughing at a customer's coffee order, which felt unprofessional. Additionally, the wait tim for coffee is quite long, and it seems like a more efficient system would really help...
