The Folly Coffee House in Settle is a delightful eatery. As well as the building being historically full of interest, the Coffee House is excellent. Open everyday except Sunday and some public holidays it is so busy booking ahead is recommended, especially if visiting for lunch.

Good choice of coffees and drinks The Folly is renowned locally for the quality of the food. In particular for the scones and cakes freshly baked every day by the two dedicated bakers. The menu changes daily and fresh seasonal produce, whenever possible, is sourced locally. Ingredients match the seasons so you may be lucky enough to eat a piece of freshly baked Frangipane containing a variety of summer berries or enjoy a delicious winter vegetable soup in the cooler months. Sometimes there can be a short wait because all the food is freshly prepared as ordered but the staff are always friendly, helpful and responsive to customers' requests and dietary requirements.

This review is written in response to some negative comments posted recently. The writer of these reviews seems to find fault with a number of establishments in Settle. In her review about the Folly Coffee House their particular concerns related to the presence and behaviour of customers and their dogs.

Myself, friends and canine companions have been regular customers for many years since the Coffee House opened. Yes on the very odd occasion there may have been a restless dog or an unresponsive owner but this is the exception and not the norm. Without doubt, in our experience, the majority of customers with dogs (or with children for that matter) are friendly, polite and considerate.

Settle and surrounding area is a great place to visit. Enjoy refreshments in the Folly Coffee House, a look around the building and The Museum of North Craven Life and, if you visit in July/August there is the added delight of the annual...

It's worth visiting for the building and atmosphere! Beautiful! And a gorgeous log fire burning. Only called for coffee and cake - and that's where it fell down a bit for me. I just wanted cake. Two layers. Cream in the middle. Icing on top. Not really bothered what flavour. And they had nothing. Other choices yes - but no 'cake'. I have a medical condition (caused by a lot of radiotherapy) which has left me with dysphagia and my cake needs to be moist. I thought the stollen would be okay (Sainsbury's is great) but it wasn't. It was sadly dry - even with dips of coffee. Had to swap it for my husband's Bakewell cake (to his dismay) and then leave the pastry. Such a shame. The coffee was good, the staff were pleasant and it was spotlessly clean It is obviously very popular and deservedly so. The bill came to just over £13 for a large latte, a flat white and two cakes. You can't complain at that. I would recommend that people visit and I would possibly go again and hope that they have 'cake'. Maybe once the mince pies, Christmas cake and stollen...

We come here quite a lot because my mum lives in Settle but on the last two occasions it has been very busy with people with dogs. One time a dog was sat right by the ordering counter with the cakes and jumped up and clicked my cardigan, which was ruined. The next time a man with a dog was sat so the dog was in the doorway opening and jumped at my elderly mother who went flying but I was able to catch her. There needs to be some rules for where dogs can sit as that was just dangerous and the owner said nothing at all and carried on drinking his coffee. I cannot imagine the HSE being okay with this as someone will get hurt soon and it is really really unfair. There is a garden area so maybe this would be better for animals. I can’t see how it is okay for animals to jump up and ruin someone’s clothes. Not everyone goes out in old clothes or ones that can be scratched by dogs. Very disappointed.

Our food and coffee was very good, but safety isn’t something I can overlook. The dogs barking is also startling for some people as it...

I recently visited The Folly in Settle, a beautiful Grade I listed building that is home to The Folly Coffee House and the Museum of North Craven Life. The historic charm of the building made for a lovely atmosphere, and the combination of history, culture, and great food made for a memorable experience. I attended the Living Spring Ring Workshop, which was a fantastic event. The setting inside The Folly made it even more special, adding to the sense of tradition and creativity. Before the workshop, I stopped by The Folly Coffee House for lunch. I had the tomato soup and a brie and cranberry sandwich, both of which were delicious. They also had cauliflower soup on offer. I paired my meal with a latte, which was smooth and well-made. The cosy ambiance of the café, along with friendly service, made it a great spot to relax. Overall, The Folly is a must-visit if you're in Settle—whether you're interested in its history, attending an event, or just looking for a great place to enjoy a meal. Highly recommended! :)

Wonderful dog friendly cafe. Clean and spacious. Good coffee in decorative cups and saucers (large or regular). Very impressed with the Scallywags (a dark, fruity type scone) bursting with flavours. Also, the cheese sandwich was spot-on. They even have North Riding Brewery beers (bottles) as part of their alcoholic beverages range. Friendly atmosphere, popular with locals and walkers and set in a large historic building. The cafe itself is a means of charitable support for the building and museum. The entrance to the cafe is up about 3 steps. At the front of the building. So, wheelchair access will probably be difficult (But, check this, as they may have a contingency plan in operation).
