I was so shocked when I found this place, sticks out like a sore thumb in Spenny, but in the best way š looks like a cool coffee shop you might find in a trendy city! and it's a bar too! I am yet to go at night but they do a pub quiz which sounds fun!
The interior looks really cool and slick and I love that they have some cute garden sets out the front so you can sit outside (when the weather permits). The coffee is excellent and the majority of the staff are super friendly and lovely! They have several plant-based milks and the vegan cakes and pastries are great too!
I feel sad that I can't give it 5 stars because I love it here and it has so much potential but my main hang up is the food. I imagine most of the menu is great and my family really enjoyed the meat dishes they've tried but the vegan food options are really sub par. I think there's maybe 2 options, which is surprising for a cool place you'd expect there to be more variety or some substitutional options.
The options I have tried were really small for the price, not very filling at all. The options that come with bread are especially disappointing, the only vegan bread option is a gluten free pitta which, as I'm sure u can imagine, is like eating cardboard. Please get a better dairy-free bread š Most bread is vegan so I was surprised that their sourdough isn't!
Also there is one staff member that always seems to be in a bad mood and acts indifferently towards me. I get some people have an RBF, I probably do too lol, but as someone who also works in face-to-face customer service I know I need to put on a smile and be friendly when interacting with customers. It's a shame because as I said earlier everyone else I've interacted with is super lovely, but my experience with this staff member makes me feel uncomfortable about going sometimes in case I'm served by them!
Overall it's an awesome place and is fab having a place like this in...
Ā Ā Ā Read moreUnfortunately not a good first impression. The floors were dirty and looked like they'd never been swept in over a month. Tables were wobbly. Plastic plant thick of dust and Golden Syrup tin which held the bare minimum of cutlery and napkins had debris round the rim. Window seats had dust and crumbs in the corners and round the edges and the windows were in desperate need of seeing a window cleaner.
I had an English Breakfast which consisted of Bacon, Sausage ring, Beans, Egg, Hash Brown and Fried bread. I asked for Tomato, Mushrooms and Black Pudding to be left off. The toast was black on one side and had a sweet taste, the egg was snotty and how the hash brown passed as a hash brown is beyond me. My breakfast ended up being, Bacon, Sausage and Beans at a cost of £6.95.
After seeing lots of good reviews and pictures of their food I had high hopes for the place, but unfortunately I was left feeling disappointed and ripped off, Its nice to try new places around the town but I won't be eating here again, it definitely isn't as good...
Ā Ā Ā Read moreI travelled to The Grind in Spennymoor for Grind Fest which was a bank holiday Sunday festival. I had several drinks including some delicious cocktails and gorgeous Hot Dogs (pictured) which were a special on the day. It was the best hot dog Iāve actually ever had and I wish I knew where they were from! The staff were really friendly and couldnāt do enough for us. Special thank you to Amy who looked after us. We loved the Sunday at The Grind so much we came back on Bank Holiday Monday to have breakfasts and got 1 Eggs Benedict and a 1 Full English. The quality of the meat on the breakfast was obvious and they advised it was from a local Butcher and told me which one. I loved the black pudding, the homemade potato rosti and the brioche toast. It was a very special breakfast. Washed down with some local coffee, the flat white was particularly good. The grind was clean and I used the toilet which was nicely done out and also clean. 5/5. The only downside for me is they havenāt got more cafes as Iād like one nearer my house! We will...
