Reception was good, but when I got to the room there was no heating on. The receptionist apologised, changed some setting on the system and the heating came on. Unfortunately, I was on a quik turn around so it was still cold when I left, but toasty warm on my return, except for the bathroom, which never heated up.|The room and its facilities were well presented and clean. Could do with some decaf coffee sachets in the refreshment offer|Next morning I took some of my clothing out to the car, but on return to get the rest found myself locked out because of the timing of the electronic key. This was just after 9.30 am Sturday morning, when check out is up to 11.00. Found a member of staff who apologised and issued another key. I got the remaining stuff from the room and put in the car, then went to seek breakfast, which was all laid out when I started checking out, but was cleared away by about 9.45. Apparently if you have not booked a breakfast the produce is removed so that the area is cleared for when non reidents are allowed into the space at 10.00am.|I had searched all the in room information the night before to find out the timings for breakfast, but there was no such information on any of the documentation there. Yes,it is on the website, but it should be readily available in the room.|I discussed this with a member of staff who agreed with my point of view, but made sure I could get what I needed, so all was made good.|My point is the staff, all of whom I found to be polite and helpful, should not have to appologise for the basic faillures of the sytems they have to operate within. Senior management need to adress these issues. They detract unnecesarily from the overall impression left on the customer, which no amount of staff aplogising can erase.|These are niggles that should be adressed, but I woud emphasise, the room was clean and the staff exemplary, the stay overall was reasonable value for money and despite the above I would/will stay there again ( by which time i hope the niggles have...
Read moreI contacted The Highfield by email around the beginning of the year asking if they would be able to accommodate early check-in as I was flying in from the States for a friend's wedding nearby. They asked about what time I was thinking (about an hour and a half earlier), and confirmed I'd be good to go. Due to their prices being quite reasonable (for one person, especially), I proceeded to book one night. As the date of my stay drew near, my plans changed and I found myself needing an additional night. My reservation originally stated no amendments could be made. I reached out via email again and they immediately tacked on another night for me! The rate for that night was slightly cheaper as well.|The day of, my flight was delayed so I ended up arriving a half hour later than intended. I was told my room was ready and handed a key with a note on the key card envelope, specifically noting my early check-in request (I very much appreciated that little detail for some reason - just my brain being weird).|I was on the top floor. There is no lift. So if you have a lot of luggage, keep that in mind. I had a massive suitcase with me as I'm travelling for two weeks, but the stairs are on the shallow side since its an older building so it wasn't too bad.|I booked a single. The room was perfect for one person. Bathroom wasn't cramped and nicely updated. All basic necessities were provided, and for me, the bed was comfortable enough.|The only thing of note: There's plenty of seating, but they don't particularly have a lounge space with sofas or chairs. Not a big deal, but as an avid reader, sometimes a space to read with a beverage surrounded by the ambiance of a hotel lobby/restaurant is a vibe.|Not too much to do in the area, but I booked for convenience of location based on my immediate need.|Overall, highly recommend. Thank you for...
Read moreBeen here a few times now. Food is generally decent and do good deals each day. When visiting tonight we ordered some burgers. On the menu it say that all burgers come with chips and onion rings. (Unless stated otherwise). ||Having been before and my girlfriend didn’t get onion rings with her burger, we thought it must be only certain ones.||We asked the guy at the bar more about this because we were going to order some as a side in that case but where told “yeah they all come with onion rings”. Fair enough so we didn’t order any more.||The three burgers come out, all with no onion rings! Bearing in mind I had the same meal the last visit and mine did as I gave a couple to her so we both had some! We politely asked if they had been missed and simply got a Kurt “they don’t come with onion rings” from the guy serving. I mentioned about mine coming with them last time and was greeted with a shrug and the guy walked off! Amazing service by the way!||Again this is quite a small thing and it’s fair enough if they don’t but it should be stated clearer and not be told one thing by one guy and another by the server! Normally in here as well someone comes up whilst you are eating to ask if everything is okay. This time however we where clearly given a wide birth as where avoided all the time while there and never checked up on! ||It does feel harsh giving such a negative review for something so simple (as said earlier we would have been happy to buy some!) but it’s more the way the particular member of staff behaved and just the lack of communication really which is why the review is quite average rather than completely negative since the food is generally...
