I'm not Indian - so can't claim to know what authentic actual Indian food tastes like. I've had a lot of British Indian Restaurant (BIR) curries. Kokum definitely does not serve BIR and it's all the better for it. The BIR space is totally over-crowded with a myriad of restaurants with exactly the same menu. Now that said, you need to be ready to pay a premium for that authentic Indian experience, and I'd say it was worth it. We visited a few days after Kokum opened ... my missus had the Goan Fish curry and I had the Rajasthani Laal Maas - a spicey lamb curry. Both were excellent. As was the naan - noticeably lighter and less doughy than others. Things to know - it's not BIR so forget over ordering all the usual sides dishes. But the mains are really good. Food: 5/5 Service: 4/5 - they're "learning". Liked it when the chef came out to ask about the food.

After a long gap had an opportunity to visit Kokum again, this time with family. Owner recommended chicken lollipop for my 5-year-old and mango lassi which she thoroughly enjoyed. The chicken lollipop was unlike we get in india, had different marinade and less spicy, perfect for my child. Another starter recommended by some previous customers was chilly paneer which also was very tasty. We also ordered Butter chicken for my wifes taste which she couldn't stop raving about. As for myself I wanted to try Rajasthani Lal maas which was a spicy blend of boneless lamb cooked in gravy. Certainly for someone's hot palate, worth recommended. Overall had a good experience in a very cosy restaurant.

A firm favourite of mine. I have been four times before with family but this time went with two friends. Lovely intimate setting with pleasant decor and background music. Staff very receptive and discreet. We went for a non veg feast enjoying the fish fry, chicken lollipop and Adraki lamb chops for starters, and the Malabar prawns and the Punjabi Kukkud for mains. All beautifully presented, tasty distinct flavours, and deceptively filling! Washed down very well with a bottle of wine! Was too full to have dessert in this occasion but highly recommend the shrikand cheesecake and the brownie! Will be back again soon!

We booked a table for 11 of us on a busy Saturday evening to celebrate my husband and son’s birthdays. I don’t say this lightly in the slightest, but the food coupled with the service and attitude of the staff was by far the worst I have ever experienced. Each dish that was served to us, the waiter would rudely tell us to “hold this” and would rudely hand the food item to us, while he placed other dishes onto our table. Clearly, he was not happy working there which initially made me personally feel sorry for him. For this reason, I have absolutely no issue in lending a hand when waiters serve, in fact we were the ones constantly asking the staff to clear our table of empty plates to make space. The waiter was rude but the most rude was the female owner. She came to ask us how everything was, even before all the dishes had been served to us, so we were not in a position to provide feedback. It took almost 45 mins for the food to come out. Disappointingly, and now reflective of the service we received, the kebabs were cold and tasteless, the paneer was rock hard and the butter chicken tasted off. One of us had ordered a milk lassi, and we thought this being a Punjabi restaurant it will be authentic, but what came out was a watered version – almost looked like remnants from a yoghurt tub! When we gave feedback to the lady, she practically shouted down at us, telling us she had asked how the food was…. But she had asked when only half the food hadn’t been served… when we did tell her, she was not willing to accept the embarrassment of the food they served. She was rude and unwilling to rectify the situation. We weren’t looking to get money taken off the bill or anything, but we showed her our dishes to say, hey look, we haven’t eaten these items because they don’t taste right! But the attitude of this woman was horrible that we just paid and left! Please, if you want authentic desi food, this is not the place to go. I felt so bad booking this place for my guests as I made them all drive 40 minutes out of their way here. What a waste of our time and money! I DO NOT recommend...

I recently had the pleasure of dining at The Kokum, a delightful Indian restaurant that left me thoroughly impressed. From the moment I stepped inside, I was greeted by a warm and inviting ambiance that immediately made me feel at ease. The Kokum boasts an intimate and cozy atmosphere, perfect for a relaxed dining experience.

Now, let's talk about the food. The Kokum truly excels in delivering exceptional Indian cuisine. One dish that particularly stood out to me was their Dal Lasooni. I must say, it was a flavor sensation like no other. The creamy texture, combined with the aromatic blend of spices, created a truly memorable culinary experience. The Kokum has undoubtedly mastered the art of creating delectable dals.

Beyond the delectable dishes, the staff and the owner of The Kokum played a significant role in enhancing my dining experience. Their genuine friendliness and attentive service made me feel valued as a customer. The staff was well-informed about the menu, and their recommendations were spot-on. They were always ready to assist and cater to any specific dietary preferences or requirements, ensuring a personalized dining experience for every guest.

In addition to the food and service, The Kokum's attention to detail is evident throughout the restaurant. The interior design showcases a tasteful fusion of traditional and contemporary elements, creating a visually appealing space. The thoughtful decor and comfortable seating further contribute to the overall coziness of the establishment.

If you're seeking a memorable Indian dining experience, I highly recommend visiting The Kokum. Whether you're a fan of dal or eager to explore a variety of authentic Indian flavors, this restaurant will undoubtedly leave a lasting impression on your taste buds. A Culinary Journey to Remember at The Kokum! (5 Stars!)

From the moment we stepped into The Kokum, we knew we were in for a special treat. The warm and attentive service, spearheaded by the excellent manager Arvi, made us feel instantly welcome and valued. Arvi's hospitality truly set the stage for an unforgettable dining experience.

And then there was the food... Wow! Chef Jakir is nothing short of a magician in the kitchen. Every dish was a masterpiece of flavour and artistry. We started with the Mumbai Prawns Koliwada, which were absolutely divine – bursting with fresh, vibrant flavours. For our mains, we indulged in the Laal Maas (a lamb-based dish) and the butter chicken. Both were incredibly delicious, showcasing authentic Indian cooking at its finest. The spices were perfectly balanced, offering a true taste of India without being altered to the local palate 🙂. Each bite was an explosion of taste, a testament to Chef Jakir's skill and passion.

Beyond the incredible food, The Kokum also boasts an impressive cocktail menu. If you are driving and can have only one drink, we would recommend the ‘Special Saffron old Fashioned’ which was amazingly good, offering a fantastic fusion between classic Old Fashioned with a unique Indian ’tadka’. It was the perfect complement to our meal.

Our experience at The Kokum was so exceptional that it easily earns a 5-star rating. The combination of Arvi's exceptional hosting, Chef Jakir's culinary wizardry, and the innovative cocktails makes this restaurant a must-visit. We were so impressed that we're already planning our return trip! The menu is extensive and enticing, and we can't wait to explore more of its culinary delights. If you're looking for an authentic and unforgettable Indian dining experience, The Kokum is the...
