The Oak — Restaurant in England

Went with 6 family members for lunch today and although the staff, management and starters were all good the mains were absolutely atrocious. They brought out the wrong food and charged other people's food to our account.

They then tried to resolve the situation by amending the bill and re making the food. The burger they served was in 2 peices (it had obviously been broken by the chef but still attempted to serve it). The burger was burnt as was the bacon inside of it. I asked for it to be removed and it was. The chicken burger was very dry and the nuggets over cooked.

I told the manager that I was completely unsatisfied by the food and the mistakes and he seemed unapologetic even trying to tell me the burger was fresh etc. I think the chefs need some retraining. I wanted to leave without paying the bill but due to a couple of people eating the food I duly paid.

I have a sour taste in my mouth and would not reccomend this...

It is unusual for me to post a review of any establishment, however after reading the previous review I feel compelled to post an opposing view from personal experience.

The previous reviewer suggests they would like ''more atmosphere' from a wake? A funeral? Would they like dancing girls, karaoke or maybe a comedy duo? On a February Monday afternoon? I'm not quite sure I understand? Anyway from my experience I have only ever found Monday Club at The Oak to be a welcoming, community atmosphere, full of characters, good beer, laughter and accommodating staff. What more can you ask for? The Oak is a delightful watering hole in a somewhat dry dessert. The staff welcome you with a smile, the beer is cold with a spectacular...

Worst pub in Essex, crowds of drunks pouring out uncontrolled by fish and chip eating, waste of space security. Landlord Chris is an ignorant man. Making the area unsafe. Police presence is required at least once per week after allowing drug takers to deal freely in his carpark, and drug taking in the surrounding area. A vandalised vehicle, a break in at the photography shop next door and fights breaking out reported in the last week alone. Broken glass and bottle continually strewn in the street, in a area with two schools nearby. The pub is a disaster for the area and should be pulled down. Internally, the pub is run down, out of date and dirty. Surprised they have any type of food rating. Doesn't...
