Worst Spoons. Poor service, appalling staff. Frequently served food on chipped plates.
Today as usual the staff could not be bothered to restock the main condiments area, meaning at the time we were there there was only (literally) a few packets of salt and pepper so i had to trek to the kitchen area for everything. I've seen many families and older folk on previous occasions not even realise there is this other area and so they go without condiments and so as well as being an inconvenience to people like me, this is a real customer service issue.
I picked up the sauces etc and there were a couple of staff standing there doing absolutely nothing. I commented politely that I didn't know what problem this Spoons had with restocking the condiments area as it is frequently empty. (I did not say this bit but that is even when there is lots of staff looking after only a handful of customers in the pub and the staff have nothing else to do.)
Anyway the two of them looked at me a bit gormlessly, no apologies or any kind of recognition that they could actually, you know, DO something helpful like go restock the area as any other hospitality crew member would do anywhere else.
Then another staff member came and interrupted me and her body language was extremely abrasive, her facial expression rude. Bear in mind, I had said nothing rude at all to anyone. I had not shouted or sworn or anything like that. I don't drink alcohol at all so was not drunk. It was a perfectly fair and reasonable comment: why couldn't they look after the condiments area?
This thoroughly obnoxious member of staff then said to me in a nasty tone - and I kid you not - "if you don't like it, leave."
I was incredulous at her manner. I couldn't believe she had the cheek to say this.
She claimed to be the customer service manager which is absolutely laughable as she has zero people skills and is a discredit to anybody who works in hospitality.
She said, presumably to justify her management ability, that the area was restocked every night. (That is not true as it is not always) but anyway I said that once a day clearly was not often enough. It was only 1pm when we were there and it was empty.
She did not care and again repeated if I didn't like it, i could leave.
She even lied that I had been shouting at the 2 staff when I had absolutely not and there are witnesses to prove this fact.
I said it was a joke she was a customer service manager and walked away. She then, like a typical bully, laughed at me, getting others to laugh with her too at me, as I walked away back to our table.
When the food was served a short time later by another member of staff, this new one told me to finish up and leave! During the meal I could see members of staff at the other end looking at me, some laughing. This is appalling and is bullying. Was this so called customer service manager a bully at school as she sure acted like one towards me?
However, on the plus side, somebody did come restock the condiments area in the meantime as they knew I was right. They had to empty boxes full of absolutely everything into there to restock it.
Unbelievably disgusting customer service from this very rude customer service manager. This woman should be sacked. She then went and deliberately sent a staff member to block me in at my chair so I was delayed and couldn't walk freely. Unbelievable. I have never been so badly treated for doing absolutely nothing wrong!
I an writing to Spoons to complain but I have no doubt...
Read moreI visited the Palladium with a group of friends on Monday 18th March. One of us ordered food and drink before the rest of us and when the drink was bought to the table he was asked for ID. He showed ID however out of the group two individuals provided a student ID which was not accepted. When asking for a refund the response from the manager was 'We can provide this a takeaway'. When we have previously visited the Palladium we were with a group of friends and a jug filled with an alcoholic drink was bought to our table. We had only been in for a few minutes and was NOT asked for ID. Being a group of 16/17 year olds we expect to be ID every time we come to wetherspoons. We visit the Palladium frequently and have only previously been asked for ID once as a group of 2. From our observations there is no adverting around the palladium to show that under 18's must be accompanied by an adult unless relevant ID can be shown. As you may gather this frustrates me as today we were going to celebrate my 17th birthday and was unable to do this. We accept that we had nobody over the age of 18 but because we visit the Palladium so often and have such a good experience this is clearly something that needs to be re-thinked by the management team ensuring that every time a group of teenagers enters the Palladium they are asked for ID. The management team should be ashamed they have colleagues which are unable to ask a group of people for ID and some that are able to. Like I stated previously this has not left any of us very happy especially myself after expecting to celebrate a birthday. This is clearly something going over-looked by many colleagues as we have visited many times without being asked for proof of ID. I recommend you advertise this point within the palladium and not wait for a member of staff to ask you when they bring...
Read moreOn a quiet time on a Wednesday afternoon (just before schools out) I visited this now well established venue for a late lunch. There's a 'Beer Festival' in progress and more ale pumps than usual are available. Being on the Cask Marque AleTrail, all those beers on offer should be in prime condition. The first beer I tried, Butcombe Gold (4.4%ABV, the tasting notes mention, inter-alia, 'vitality,' 'mellowness in character,' and a 'rounded bittersweet finish') which I thought a right load of cobblers. The beer was a decent drop and was indeed in prime condition.
My lunch, a well seasoned and spicy Beef Madras curry was a step up from the usual (rather bland) pub curries, the beef being particularly good having been given a thorough pounding before the cook. This and the beer, I received change from eight quid.
Service was prompt, staff were attentive - I was well pleased with my timing, meal and visit. Sometimes, Spoons visits can be a somewhat raucous and crowded experience. This suits some, others prefer a more dignified encounter. Timing is everything.
I finished with a pint of Greene King's Ruddles, 3.7%ABV and again, the compiler of the tasting notes waxed lyrical about 'Berry flavour' 'toffee/caramel' and 'crystal meths'..........sorry, misread that, 'crystal malt' but there definitely is much more flavour to this beer, even though being of...
