My wife and I stayed in Sunbeam cottage whilst we were visiting to see Basement Jaxx. The cottage itself was lovely, very pleasant with everything needed for our one night's stay. There are however a few things that wouid have elevated our experience. Upon arrival, it would have been a lovely gesture to have had a bottle of bubbly or a fresh loaf of local bread / jam / cake waiting on the table. We have stayed in many places and such gestures, just set one stay apart from another.

The Plough Inn arranged for coach transfer to and from the Open Air Theatre for those guests who ate at the Plough Inn beforehand. This was a nice gesture. The food was nice, but the vegetarian options for my wife were very limited so she was left with the option of chips and two small tapas plates. If you are vegetarian, I would probably recommend looking elsewhere to eat. I had a burger which was okay. Service again was okay. We waited 20 minutes before having to grab somebody's attention to take our order.

On the Sunday morning we requested a later check out (check out is at 10am) which is early, especially after an event the night before. I phoned through to the Plough Inn and was informed that if we wanted to check out at 11, we wouid have to pay another £25 for the hour. Needless to say we did not. Overall a nice experience but as guests and at £200 for the night, it would have been nice to make guests feel a bit more...

This is our second visit to the Plough. It's a beautifully restored and decorated traditional style pub, but still very modern and stylish at the same time. We stayed overnight because we had tickets for the open air theatre. It's a walkable distance (about 35mins). Our room was quite small, but very well equipped and well laid out, with everything we needed, so it wasn't really a problem. I have seen some of the other rooms when we last stayed as there were a few of us and some of the rooms are a better size. The restaurant serves beautiful food and on our previous visit the chef was very accommodating to those who had special dietary requirements. Very good wines and cocktails available. Scalby is a beautiful village, on our last stay we stayed in one of the cottages owned by the plough and had lunch at the Yew tree (all part of the same group) we picked this destination for its walking routes around the area. I would definitely recommend their cottages for families with young children who wanted a peaceful seeside break. I will definitely visit again, especially if we get tickets for the open...

The food is on the whole very good here, tho there are some very odd combinations , veg of the day served with chilli????? Sea food pie served with lettuce and heavily pickled cold courgettes?? The ambience is very good and the surroundings are decorated to a high standard. The staff are very polite and smiley but then on our visit thats unfortunately where the good points ended . The service was very slow , yes they were busy but sorry thats not my problem. One of our party wanted a glass of red wine with her main meal ...probably 20 mins later and said meal having been eaten, we asked where it was along with other ordered drinks. No plausable reason being given for the delay we politely declined desserts and asked instead for the bill... that certainly wasnt delayed and was produced pretty much instantly. It is a shame the evening was spoilt in this way , communication is a wonderful thing and really all it needed was the truth about what was going on and we would have been more supportive of...

Chanced my luck and rocked up on a Sunday without a booking and was lucky to be slipped in for a Sunday dinner for two. We had roast beef and pork and a chicken roast. Food was stunning plenty of meat cooked to perfection and a large wide range of veg left just enough room to squeeze a dessert in . Stunning pub decorated stylish and very polite and helpful staff . We visit scarborough once a year for a couple of nights and will definitely be back and may look into booking a room here next time . Not stayed here before but the rooms look grand . I would recommend booking as we was lucky as they had a cancellation we did notice just after 5 o'clock it seemed less busy so if you have not booked you probably have more of a chance of getting a table at that time. Overhaul a lovely experience and great food definitely will return. Cheers

Very good accommodation and room. Nice and clean, especially the interior design is extremely gorgeous. But, yes there is a but. When we booked the accommodation it’s under the hotel name so we thought it’s a hotel with two bedroom self catering suit. But actually it’s a separated building where opposites the hotel. When we asked the staff if we could pay for breakfast and they told us it’s fully booked and no more capacity. Also they told us it’s a self catering accommodation so we can cook food ourself. Excuse me, if the accommodation under the hotel management why they didn’t ask us if we wish to have breakfast or at least have a option on booking website to ask if we want breakfast. Also I don’t think it’s very difficult to prepare extra breakfast for 3 people. Any way we are end up with no breakfast and unhelpful staff.
