I am writing this review with regards to a customer service issue we faced last year that till today pains me. Me and my family came late October 2023 to this fish and chips restaurant with our young children so we could enjoy a meal out Together. we requested to be seated as a family together, as we always did, in the back. However they informed us that we cannot sit as a family as the area was closed and they didn't want the staff to have to clean up the tables. This was at 8 pm on a weekend so it wasn't even close to closing time. Dissapointed with this we left. As we did so, I rang up to speak to the manager to express my dissatisfaction. In response he spoke very rudely about my dear husband, that he was putting me up to this and made other insulting remarks . He was extremely vulgar and harsh. We ended up buying takeaway food and eating together at home. 2 weeks later my Husband of 15 years sadly passed away. That would have been the last meal he would have taken the family out for, but they deprived my young and now orphaned children of having a beautiful meal with their beloved Father. The memory of Queen vic in their mind is no longer fond, but of the rejection we faced when we last visited. Queen Vic may remember, they may not, but we cannot forget. And this memory is very painful.. I hoped to let them know of this, so others do not have to go through what we did. We wish the business further success, but remember that it is the customers who help a business thrive, each and every one should be treated with consideration and respect. My husband was a simple and humble man. Do keep him in your prayers. Wassalam May Allah...
Read moreUpdate 2 - Visited again today and can confidently say this place makes quality fish and chips. The chips were again dry and crispy, but fluffy on the inside. The ‘regular’ size cod is meaty, chunky, and fresh with just the right amount of batter. The batter is light and crispy. A little greasy but then this is deep fried food! The haddock is better. Chunky and tasty. I recommend this over the cod. Mushy peas were hot and satisfying. A little too smooth - some texture would be nice. Overall a happy customer.
Update - April 2022 This place has gone downhill. In fact if it was a hill I could slide down on a sled at 100mph. The service was good, always a smile from the friendly girls at the counter and bossman behind the fryer. The haddock was dead though, and I don’t mean because it’d been fished out of the sea but because it was small in size, mushy in places and really dry in others. I cook too therefore I know this was due to a poorly cut fillet which didn’t cook evenly.
Please please sort this out and fit some heating and ventilation and I’ll leave 5 stars and am sure others will too!
Old review: Excellent fish and chips. The haddock was large, flaky and well cooked with just the right amount of light batter. The chips were crispy and well cooked - also large portions. Prices are reasonable for the quality. Recommended. Wish I’d taken a photo....
Read moreI am so reluctant to post this as I don't want businesses to suffer for something beyond their control (e.g. prices) but Queen Vic in Blackburn needs to drastically improve. The fish served at QV in Blackburn was disgusting. It was stale and tasted horrible. It was discoloured in places. The watery vinegar did nothing to the flavour, if anything it spoiled it. The chips were flavourless. Why do they cut corners like this? It's freaking vinegar. Get good quality, how much are you saving by getting this brown water? The eating area was cold and miserable (we went December 2024. 8pm). The food became cold very quickly. Ventilation was an issue as there was condensation on the windows. Service was quick mind. Their menu is confusing. You can get large f&c, you can even get a small f&c but when I asked for a regular size they said they don't do it. Weird. So I went with small hoping I don't get served 2 fish fingers. It was reasonable in size thankfully. Overall it's best to avoid if you want a fine dining experience. I think this was my last visit....
