I walk by The Red Lion often but bumped into a friend who had just eaten there and raved about it so was pleased to have the opportunity to talk a visitor from up North there for lunch. We both had Crab Soup and my friend also had Fish Pie. Now...when they say "Crab Soup" they mean Crab Soup.....absolutely fabulous and not just half an inch of soup in at the bottom of a very large plate - no no no - this was a huge dish o' soup with pieces of crab meat in the bottom and two pieces of proper garlic bread. (I do mean huge!!) Honestly, the very best Crab soup I ever did taste. On to the fish pie.....tried some of it....is was a wonderful creamy/fishy sauce with large chunks of fish in it served with a basket of chips and peas.....really amazingly good...was exactly what it said it was. Cant praise this place more....great view AND all you dog owners - YES dogs are welcome too. Do go and try this place and DO order the Crab soup....

Great food and friendly service. We were on a tight schedule as had tickets for a film at the Newlyn Filmhouse afterwards (also well worth a visit). As they were a bit short staffed (like a lot of places are just now), we were warned that the food could take over half an hour to come. They were really good, and above all friendly, open and honest about everything and did their best to get us served in time. We just had another round of drinks while waiting and in the end our table's order came in just under the time they'd said, and in time for us to make it to the film without having to rush. The food was great too, so I'll happily give them five stars. Though it wasn't what we had on this occasion, I should mention that the crab soup served there is definitely worth trying. Update: Crab soup...

hiking through the coastal path we reached Penzance, a fishing port and beautiful city, we stopped for breakfast and to have a walk arround, before leave we thought " lets have lunch, the fish here must be nice and fresh", this time instead of lookin google for restaurants we just saw " The Red Lion inn" in front of us, we checked the menu and we went in, conclusion: an amazing meal with fresh fish in the beautiful garden on the top with a view of the harbor, really cheap comparing with the expensive places serving worst quality dishes with fish along the coastal path, good and friendly service, doesn't look as fancy as many other places but the matter is the taste and quality...

A cosy pub overlooking the harbour. There’s nothing quite like a welcoming pub with a wood fire to warm you up on a cold winters night. The staff and patrons were so friendly and you felt like part of the family as soon as you walked in. The food was top-notch with fresh locally caught seafood featuring throughout the menu. The service was immaculate. I’d definitely recommend their speciality of crab soup. Not one to miss if you are in the area. They are taking covid precautions strictly, so you feel safe when you are there.

On our honeymoon and it was our last night in Newlyn. We were harassed four times in the pub by a drunken local! He claimed we hadn’t asked him whether we could sit at a table that wasn’t occupied!! Even after moving to another table he continued to harass us rudely. He used the C word numerous times. Not wishing to be sworn at and made to feel Unsafe, we asked for our food to go which took an hour. The Staff did nothing to get rid of him. Beware of drunk locals at this pub !! Awful End to our honeymoon in Cornwall 😞
