We had grilled lemon sole, haddock and chips, bread basket, Whiskiki and plum drop cocktails for dinner on our first night's stay at the Albion, Good Friday. The food was absolutely delicious, perfect. And the cocktails were just superb, in fact more than superb. (Forgot to take photos) Breakfast on the morning after was also very very good. I loved the selection of fruit and nuts. 😋😋😋
So we went back on our second night stay for dinner. Food was just as delicious. We had haddock and chips again cos the fish is fresh and the batter soft and fluffy. Steak was not quite as the requested well done, but nobody asked if it was cooked enough. Still the Steak was tasty. However, when the Whiskiki cocktail arrived it tasted nothing like the cocktail the night before. On Friday, it tasted amazing, and adorned with little flowers. On Saturday, it was sickly sweet and looked different. Staff advised that it was due to fact that different person had made it. The staff lady helped take the cocktail back and brought something less sugary back, but it still tasted flat. Hey-ho, I just drank it.
The service staff are friendly and helpful, but little consistency of service. The first night we had very professional spot on service, with a very experienced lady staff waiting on us. After signing the bill to the room, the receipt is put in a Rock restaurant card folder and handed to you with two hands. Perfect, quality standard and makes good memories of our holiday. (See photo) The second night, we had a young guy, and we didn't even get a receipt.
The location of the restaurant and views are hard to beat. Views are so good if lucky enough to sit outside or at the windows. Views of Freshwater bay and the rocks. Inside also comfortable and your dog can...
Read moreVisited the restaurant with friends to celebrate my birthday. Service was slow with an hour wait between courses and long waits between drinks. Charged for water at table without forewarning it would be an additional charge. One of the ladies has a gluten allergen which was made clear at the very start and throughout the meal at each course. The main was handled well however her dessert came with shortbread. When she asked about it they took it away and bought her back half the dessert. When she mentioned this and said she was not happy with being served a serious allergen and then only getting half her dessert their response was cold and that they would offer no discount for it. They then tried to overcharge us by £10 as the server was not keeping tabs of the total when we were all paying (this was with a £40 service charge which looking back we should have just removed to save the hassle over £10). When we pointed out the calculations we were then offered a £10 discount (which was the £10 overcharge so not actually a discount). It's a shame as the food was delicious, the view was amazing, and the restaurant looked great. However we were treated badly and left with a bad taste in our mouths from the service so when asked about it, we will be recommending people...
Read moreThis resteraunt has a great menu, however its aspiration to deliver dishes of gourmet quality doesn't manifest. The cost of the dishes is not representative of either the portion size or quality.
The crab starter is a mouthful at best, the chicken main proported to be breast but contained a leg bone and the baked alaska, well imagine a store bought icecream cookie with piped marshmello on it that was not hot on the outside or cold on the inside, and about the size of digestive biscuit at the price of £25.
The atmosphere was ruined by a family that brought two yappy dogs who ignored them for the duration despite their constant noise.
I felt for the dogs as despite all the diners turning repeatedly in their direction the dogs were also ignored by the staff. Not surprising as the staff also ignored our table, not checking on us or asking if we wanted more drinks. We waited 30 minutes for the bill which had a 15%discretionary tip added.
Won't be returning, the Rock needs to either lower its prices or...
