We stayed here for one night on our way up to Scotland as it was half way for us. Good price for the night which also included breakfast. Room (number 1) was a good size with double bed, bathroom, shower (with good pressure and nice products), TV and plenty of different teas and coffees. Everything was clean (the carpet seemed quite new) although the duvet was a bit rubbish (like a lumpy mess) but the bed was comfortable enough to sleep in. We had already eaten on the way but I went downstairs to ask if I could order dessert for the room which they happily said yes to! I ordered the warm cookie dough and took it back to the room but after eating a bit realised it was actually the brownie they'd given me which was £2 cheaper than I'd paid for (and smaller, as the cookie dough said it was for 2 to share). The brownie was still nice but by the time we'd realised it wasn't what we ordered we were too tired to go and try change it and wait. Breakfast was really good. We had pre-ordered the night before from a menu. Lovely quality ingredients, and the woman serving was really polite and helpful. Not sure what the brand of apple juice was, but it looked cheap from the carton but was actually really lovely (like a premium cloudy apple juice) The downside was the noise in the room. There was some sort of extractor fan outside the room which turned on an off randomly. It was quite noisy but didn't disturb our sleep too much. But some people staying in one of the other rooms made a crazy amount of noise from 23:15 until well after midnight. They were going back and forth along the corridor outside our room multiple times (for no apparent reason). At one point they even tried to get into our room which was scary. And one of them had gone downstairs without a key and came back up and was knocking for a while on the door outside the corridor. I would recommend the doors/windows be replaced to be more soundproof which would help the noise from the outside fan as well as inside noises from other guests.

What can I say. Absolutely wonderful place to stay. The staff are really friendly and will do anything they can to help you out. A special shout out to the young lady that was starting working in the restaurant of the morning of my breakfast. Although she appeared a little nervous, she did our absolute best to make sure my breakfast was an enjoyable meal. The breakfast was lovely. I had a main meal in the bar at night. I had lasagna and it was an absolutely gorgeous meal. I will return to this pub again. The prices are normal prices for the area and the location is quite close to the town centre. I managed to park the van in the car park easily and did notice that there was plenty of room throughout the day. Looking forward to my next trip already. Thanks again. Cheers Mark.

Sunday Carvery done right There were 8 of us booked in for Sunday Carvery, our table was perfect and we received such a warm welcome by the lovely staff, the whole party commented on how friendly everyone was. Our order was taken quickly and we all enjoyed the carvery, the food was warm and fresh with a great selection. Nothing seemed too much trouble and we were able to sit for a long time after we finished our food. Very happy campers at the Wellwood Arms

Food was fine, but I am giving this pub 1-star for scamming customers in parking fines. We were paying customers yet got slammed with a parking charge notice, because we didn't realise we had to register our number plate with the bar staff. I have never been to a pub where we've had to do that before, it's very odd. No signs in the car park and tiny little notices on the bar tables, apparently, which we missed. I rang the pub, and was told they could do nothing to revoke the parking fine, even though we were customers. I was told I could appeal and "the only evidence" I would need is my bank statement showing we paid on card at the pub that day. I followed this advice, yet our appeal was rejected, likely because the company is a scam purely run to get money out of people. Presumably the pub benefits from this also. If they are going to run this sceme with a private parking enforcement company, they need to hammer the message home to every customer that comes in - they should ask if we have registered their vehicle upon entering the pub, or upon paying the bill. However, I expect they don't bother, because they know most customers are tourists and won't return to the pub anyway, so they line their pockets with our parking fines. We certainly won't be...
