I recently took my wife and kids to Radcliffe's for an impromptu lunch, having heard good reviews, especially with regard to food hygiene and allergy awareness. Eating out together as a family is a very rare event for us, largely due to my wife having coeliacs disease and of course, having typically picky kids who are hard to please!
Helpfully, the menu clearly identified gluten free options and upon speaking with the staff, they were aware of the importance of ensuring that any risk of cross contamination was mitigated, such as any gluten free options being cooked/fried separately. We were also reassured when the gentleman taking the order took the initiative to forewarn the kitchen of my wife's allergy before we ordered and going to great lengths to ensure that all issues were checked with the kitchen.
Unfortunately, through no fault of the person serving us, there was a mix-up with the order, although the checks subsequently made determined that my wife's meal did not contain gluten.
Whilst many might consider this a potential issue which would cause future concern, the steps taken to avoid what are always inevitable risks, in addition to the most impressive and conscientious manner in which the staff and management responded, was laudable.
Despite my best efforts, the management insisted that there be no charge for the entire order, even though the food was very nice.
Most worthy of praise was the immediate steps taken by the management to investigate how the issue arose, to accept responsibility where required and to learn from the experience. This is a rare quality nowadays in what is sadly an increasingly litigious society!
I would highly recommend the venue, the issues faced notwithstanding.
Finally, I would especially like to thank one particular member of staff (Dan) who deserves to be recognised for his professionalism, high standard of customer service and effort made to make us all feel welcomed...
Read moreCalled in with our grown-up grandson on a breezy spring weekday morning for brunch. Cheery welcome to a pleasant eating area inside. The seats filled up over the following 20 minutes with a steady stream of elderly locals (several with their dogs) calling in for a pot of tea or a coffee. So the place developed a quiet sociable hum of chatter. All in all, a pleasant relaxed ambience, but our grown-up grandson must have been the only adult not collecting a pension. Pleasant coffee, although there is no filter coffee option. We sampled 3 of the 'Radcliffe' offerings; Blennie, Royale, and Florentine (with black pudding on the side). Good sized portions and tastey components served quickly and without fuss. So, why not the full 5*, you ask? The purists amongst us replies.. poached eggs, just slightly overcooked, (yokes hard) bloomer slice, I'd have preferred a nice artisan granary. We'll be calling in again as our visit to @AllianceFishMongers was a major success, maybe Radcliffe's could be persuaded to use Alliances hot smoked salmon steaks..now that would raise any breakfast option to 5 (gold) * and I'll be specific about my eggs, and request a granary chunk rather than the bloomer. Oh yes, it goes without saying that whilst not cheap, prices were...
Read moreWOW - owner responded to the honest review below. Claiming I blocked a fire exit etc......unless your fire route is through a brick wall and into a fenced corner of your seating area then you are making false claims. So additional to the review below you my friend are also happy to lie to justify your bad customer service! 🙄 Original review below..... Not impressed rude and obnoxious as per another previous reviewer. I gently rested my road bike in a corner outside, not wanting to damage it or anything on the property given it is worth £5k+. Upon turning round a male worker had taken the time to come outside and tell me to put my bike across the road, also that they were closing in 20 minutes anyway so clearly didn't want to serve me.....I hadn't spoken at this time. Seeing that he was more suited to being nightclub security and had zero customer skills or willingness to actually enter verbal dialog - I calmly informed him that I would take my business elsewhere. Spurreli cafe/ice cream round the corner however were amazing - given I had rode 120km to find a coffee from Scotland, they couldn't have made me feel more welcome and the service/food was Perfect. Shame on you Radcliffes - Avoid at all costs, go next door to a...
