From the outside the pub itself looks rather welcoming but upon entering I very quickly changed my mind. Within the first few minutes I spotted multiple food safety violations. The carvery was unattended and the meat had a sheet of tin foil rested on top it was swarming with flies and there was about 50% of the meat exposed. On top of this there were no carving trays the meat had merely been dumped on top of a not so clean glass hot plate. The utensils for the veg were not clean they had clearly been used which is to be expected however it was apparent that they had not been used in some time and the food remains on them had dried out. The customers behind is wanted the carvery and when the lad came out to carve he was not wearing whites of any kind and proceeded to use the same knife for all 4 meats which in itself is a cross contamination issue. I made my way outside for a cigarette before ordering and also notice that 2 of the kitchen windows were wide open with no form of precautions to prevent pests from entering and flies were swarming the windows. When sat at our table I also noticed one of the kitchen staff using a microwave that was placed right in the view of customers. When the food came out I was not impressed to say the least my mum had the chille con carne and couldn't finish it due to the fact it was lacking in flavour and was swimming in water at the bottom of the bowl. I myself had the hunters chicken and was disappointed to discover that the chicken was dry and the edges had a transparency to it indicating the chicken had been pre cooked and simply warmed up I did not enjoy it and on top of that on 2 occasions I had to pull a hair off one of my chips. Of course I also did not finish my food as I was put off by everything I had seen in my experience there. I also noticed that there was no food hygiene award to be seen. Star hygeine awards must by law be displayed in an area easily seen by customers. And last but not least who I can only assume was either the land lord or manager greeted us at the bar and to say the least was not very pleasant he showed no effort in he job and seemed to not care. The customer service was not great however this man was the only one who dealt with us there were other members of staff who seemed from a distance to be quite pleasant. Regardless I will not be eating here again very...
Read moreI'm working away for 3 days ,popped in on Tuesday but told restaurant closed though saying open on this site, phoned on Wednesday afternoon, answer machine said they'd phone back. They didn't phone and walked by but restaurant closed, said kitchen open on this sitre, no apology from staff. Thursday got a call back from previous message and they confirmed restaurant open so I booked in. The gammon didn't appear 10oz , Overcooked and very salty. Peas overcooked and dry and chips thin and tasteless. As I was almost finished the landlady asked it was OK, I told her the gammon was very salty, she just smiled and told me the butcher had just left, was that supposed to make up for a meal that would have been half the price and better at Witherspoons in town. Won't be returning when I'm...
Read moreVery disappointed on our first and last visit today. We ordered fish, chips & peas. The chips were actually potato wedges that had been fried instead of baked,, and we both felt they had been re- heated in the oil. They left a very unpleasant burnt/greasy taste for a couple of hours ( although we were both hungry, we could not finish them). The fish still had the skin on it, which these days, you don’t expect. The peas were lovely and hot. The pub was very cold and we needed to keep our coats on. The two ladies were both very nice. We both genuinely feel that we had the worst chips...
