Although I was apprehensive at first ordering Greek at a fish and chip shop, I have to say I was pleasantly surprised at the culinary excellence that was presented before me. I recently indulged in the mixed souvlaki, an absolute delight for my taste buds, that instantly awakened my senses. The tender, juicy chunks of chicken and pork were expertly marinated, infusing each piece with a harmonious blend of herbs and spices. Every bite a celebration of the Mediterranean. But wait there’s more. A soft and fluffy pita bread, provided the ideal vessel to wrap around the tantalizing meat. With the star of the show being the tzatziki! Creamy and refreshing, this tangy yogurt-based sauce elevated the entire experience. Its coolness paired beautifully with the sizzling meat, adding a delightful zing and hint of garlic that left me craving more with each dip. And to finish what better pairing could I have asked for but to be presented with a chilled Greek beer, truly transporting anyone who eats there from Luton to the sunny shores of Greece. Chips were undercooked 4 stars

Great, unusual place. Don't be mistaken thinking it's just fish and chips, although the fish and chips is spectacular. All the food here is great, breakfast especially. Service is friendly and the atmosphere is pleasant, comfortable and, again, friendly. But the fish and chips, well... I had a medium cod and it was huge. I then got a look at the large and thought the fish that came from must of been a complete unit. Chips are the fancy triple fried type stuff, but proper chunky ones that will put you into a coma if, like me, you think eating everyone's left overs is a good idea (it absolutely is). Also worth a punt are the fried pickles (frickles) which are just gilding the lily at this point. Oh and some clever sausage has found the biggest sachets of sauces know to man, which are at hand on the table ready to be slapped liberally all over you foods. And the curry sauce, and the mushy peas, and the desserts, and...I'll stop. Just go. Go now.

There is a lovely ambiance here, the novelty of a nicely furnished fish and chips restaurant is a definite crows pleaser. The quality of the fish is spot on, portions are generous and well presented. The only downside for me is that the staff are very robotic and not very welcoming or friendly. Front of house/hostess staff should take note of this - a smile and a warm welcome for paying customers is always a winning combination. I always get the feeling when entering that i, the customer, have to please you in order to be able to eat at your establishment, when it should be the other way round, you should be making it welcoming for me to come and dine there. This has happened on the past 3 occasions and nothing has improved. It's a shame because it's lovely otherwise.

Went to Order for a takeaway was greeted by a lovely Sophie who was very helpful gave me a menu and explained how to order. Ordered at the bar fish&chips(small) curry sauce& battered sausage and chips (small) cost me nearly Ā£18 couldn’t believe it. Said I would come back to collect in ten minutes, asked my partner to collect, once he went in to do so a young girl behind the bar asked if she could help once he explained I had been in and placed a takeaway order she rudely replied ā€œit’s not ready yetā€! So he reminded her she was the one who asked if she could help. After all this I was hoping the food would make up for her attitude and the expense, after all you get what you pay for right? Nope once we opened it up at home the battered sausage was solid as was the fish more over cooked batter than anything (made me feel sick) chips weren’t too bad a bit dry though and the curry sauce tasted like bisto curry sauce you buy from a supermarket and the fish was tasteless.Won’t be visiting again never! Can’t beat mr fish on Lyneham road unfortunately it was closed this day which is why I tried the Wigmore in the first place wish I hadn’t of bothered

Thank you for your ā€œpoliteā€ response firstly whether or not your takeaway restaurant may of been closed on this day and you agreed to let me have my meal as a takeaway does not mean my food should of been cooked any differently to anyone else who was eating in. I told my partner to go through the door and turn left to the bar as this is where I ordered from in the first place if he didn’t do this that what probably be because it was his first time visiting. It don’t really matter where he stood to wait for his food as a paying customer he could of stood where he liked really . Your rude response clearly shows why your staff have the attitude they have. And why on earth would someone just come in and demand where there food is??? Unless we had been waiting a long time which we hadn’t so please don’t make out this was the case I never complain in my review about the waiting time this wasn’t a problem the problem was the attitude of your staff and the condition I got my food in. Seems like your only answer to this and all your other bad reviews is ā€œit’s the customers faultā€ and don’t come back.as stated above I WONT be returning anyway mate don’t run a business if you can’t handle bad...

Last night I drove 45 minutes to Wigmore fish and chips restaurant which was recommended by friends for their excellent reviews. When my friend and I entered the restaurant, we were welcomed by a polite waitress who seated us. A few minutes later, another waitress approached me and ordered me to remove my hat: given her tone and the fact that she had neither requested politely or more importantly did not ask for any plausible explanation/reason for wearing a hat,I refused to do so.

Upon my refusal and without questioning my reason the waitress quickly went over and called the manager. The manager explained to me it’s restaurant policy to remove a hat/hood upon entry.

Being a manager and business owner myself, I felt the restaurant manager could have demonstrated a more professional and open minded attitude in handling the situation.

I politely attempted to explain to the manager that refusal was based on medical grounds and as a result, I felt very uncomfortable to be bare headed. He didnt want to listen was clearly disinterested in what I had to say. Instead he asked me to leave the restaurant in front of all the other customers. I felt both embarrassed and disappointed in the way this had been dealt with. I had only been at the restaurant for ten minutes before being asked to leave due to wearing a hat which is for a genuine medical condition.

I found this to be the worst experience I’ve ever had, the staff were ridiculously impolite, rude and unprofessional. I cant believe this is how they treat their customers.

I expected the manager as anyone would, to be more professional in his approach, whilst I don’t offer my personal medical information I have no hesitation to share this information privately if required. Whilst I felt there was a requirement here, what I had to say fell on deaf ears, it baffles me to see such inconsideration and lack of understanding/empathy especially when the reason is given.

I have had several fine dining experiences and have been welcomed when given my reasons for wearing a hat, never in all my experiences have I been told to leave. I will never be visiting this restaurant again: an awful and undeserved experience.

Future customers need to know how they will be treated when they have a good reasoning behind not complying to the rules, forgetting there is always exceptions to...

I went here with my partner. The service we experienced is abysmal, absolutely the worst I have encountered.

We had our mains and were quite full and so we only ordered 1 dessert to share between ourselves. We ordered a Sundae, the waitress took our order of the salted caramel crunch. They brought us a Lotus crunch instead...normally I would just eat it, however my partner does not like chocolate which the Lotus crunch contained, this is the reason why we ordered the other sundae.

We asked them to take it back and bring the correct dessert, at which point the waitress said she would have to charge us for both. We stood our ground, at which point she took the wrong dessert back and said she will discuss with her manager. 5 minutes later she comes back with the correct dessert, so we thought problem solved. But when we went to pay they charged us for both, even though they took the incorrect dessert and probably ate it themselves...

After about 15 minutes explaining what went wrong and them accusing me of lying in front of other customers just to get a free dessert (ironic since they tried charging for a dessert I never ate) they eventually refunded...
