I remember as a butchers boy at around 1952 to 1956 delivering the daily minced meat to this shop to make the meat and meat and potato pies from Ledbetters and son the butchers located in Orford lane where thre model train shop is located today. I remember that the meat to make the pies, had to be put through the mincing machine at least two times, along with a blend of selected spices. I found this a boring job mincing around 40 lbs of meat twice through the mincer, but my reward came when I delivered the meat to this pie shop in large aluminium bowls on my butchers bike and the Baker always gave me one of his Hot Meat pies which was expecially welcome on a cold frosty morning.
As I lived in Wilkinson street which was not far away from this Bakers shop I found that the best pies in the whole area of Warrington were made and sold at Tomlins Bakers even as early as 1952.

The cheesecakes are incredible, be prepared to queue for them on a Saturday but there's always someone in the queue for you to chat with and compare notes on your favourites (I've recommended the battenberg cheesecake to just about everyone I've ever spoken to). The customer service and staff are perfect too, we've been most Saturdays since rediscovering it last year, I used to live nearby as a kid and I'd love to walk up for a pie and a cake with my nan. Incredible value too, you'd pay twice as much for a brownie half as nice anywhere in the...
