May be dog friendly but definitely human un-friendly. We walked the 600yds up from Glenridding with our family in search of some lunch. We went to sit in a fenced outside area, as we had 2 large dogs and as the weather was nice seemed an ideal place to avoid disturbing other people. We sat down and one of our party had gone inside to get some menus. Suddenly, an extremely arrogant and rude man, shouted at us that the area was closed today! No explanation, no offer to find us alternative seats. We reluctantly went inside, a very small lounge and found some seats, tables strewn with dirty plates, glasses and leftovers. No baby change facility so had to change our baby daughter on a bench seat. The room started to fill up and our dogs got restless and barking as other dogs and people crowded in. We got up and left, feeling very unwelcome. If this is way they call being customer focus? Their sign at the end of the road says dog friendly! Didn’t see an ounce of friendliness to man or beast in this...
Read moreCask ale was very cloudy and had a strange taste to it. Took the pint back to swap for a lager (which looked nice). Barman (possibly landlord) seemed happy to change the beer but then tried to charge me for it. When I explained the beer was sub-standard he responded very negatively, claiming he worked with cask ale every day and knows a good pint. Upon deciding to leave the pub he demanded the money for the new pint, and threatened to call the police if I didn't pay. I can safely say I have never had a refusal to change a bad pint in a pub before, and have been met with apologies and a complimentary pint, so thought this was really poor service. On a side note the pub looked and smelt quite dirty inside which initially put me off ordering food. All in all terrible service and terrible ale, would strongly recommend...
Read moreOn my way back down from Helvellyn, this being the closest pub. Everyone's water had ran out and we became very thirsty and hungry. This was on the way back down. Me and the hiking group stopped off for a rest before ending up at the carpark to set off home after the hike.
Pub Itself: The pub was a nice, clean and well taken care off building. It was quite large and easy to get round.
Staff: The staff were lovely and did everything they could to help, they helped and were friendly.
Food / Drink: The food was half decent, it could've used a bit of help because when ordering ( we orders nachos and cheese with NO peppers ) we received the order with peppers ) so we were a little annoyed but nothing else. The drinks were fine like normal.
In all this place is a nice little stop after all the hikes in the...
