Beautiful location close to porthleven harbour. Sandwiched between a row of several pretty shops. Think shabby chic with white washed seaside wooden panelling Maritime themed pictures on the walls good quality scrubbed wooden tables comfy pleasant rustic furniture. It's an attractive traditional typical cornish tearoom, varied menu. Very cosy pleasant and dog friendly. Nice quality food, personable good service but you do have to wait awhile but cooked to order. The homemade roasted pepper soup we chose today tasted very watery and washed out. But it came with a good choice of breads and gluten free items also available. Skip the roasted pepper soup though. It was disappointingly watery and flavourless today and it cost a total of £14 for 2 plus a herbal teapot and hot chocolate. Clients usually a smattering of locals over a certain age (55+) and with plenty of money in the bank to spend from the looks of them. Staff are friendly hard working and helpful without being overbearing. A good choice of homemade cakes too. The chocolate Brownie cakes are lovely. There's a small toilet and the small tearoom is situated close to other shops and handy amenities. It does get busy especially with doggies so if you are allergic or not a let owner I would suggest going elsewhere. Today they were offering full roast dinner served at lunchtime. Overall this nice establishment is wonderful. suitable for all ages perfect for a cream tea with a good mix of customers. The only thing I would say is portions are average to small sized, and as I mentioned previously at the high end...
Read moreFor several years The Twisted Currant has been my go to cafe when I visit Porthleven with its delicious quiches, cakes and friendly atmosphere but today was not a good day. I understand that menus change but here it seems the menu has been simplified and unfortunately quiches were no longer on offer. I was delighted however that crab sandwiches were available. I was told there would be a wait for my food which I accepted, but didn't expect to wait an hour and fifteen minutes before my sandwich arrived, during which time very little food was forthcoming from the kitchen and it was obvious other customers were getting impatient with the wait, though drinks were being served and there were plenty of staff. The menu is a simple one - paininis, sandwiches, bubble and squeak, etc - all of which can be rustled up in minutes. The staff didn't seem rushed off their feet and several were just standing around in the kitchen not doing anything, so how did it take so long to serve up a sandwich with a bit of salad and some crisps? The crab sandwich also consisted of mainly brown meat and very little white. Very...
Read moreWe popped into The Twisted Currant in Porthleven for a casual lunch and were pleasantly surprised by this lovely little café. The menu offers a great selection of sandwiches and cooked breakfast options, and everything feels homely and freshly made.
We went for two of the specials on the board — the chorizo ciabatta and salami ciabatta. Both were packed with flavour and served warm, just the way you’d hope. Each came with a generous side salad and a portion of homemade coleslaw, which was particularly delicious and clearly made with care.
Prices were really reasonable for the quality and portion sizes, making this a great spot for a relaxed bite to eat. Friendly service and a welcoming atmosphere just added to the experience.
Highly recommend if you’re in Porthleven and fancy a good lunch in a...
