I'll always remember this restaurant as part of a magical day when I encountered a chance meeting with a lovely lady who quite rightly described herself as an emotional empath. I'd made a total pigs ear of my previous visit to Yarm and failed to witness much of its beauty by insisting on walking past the town centre into North Yorkshire in error ! .... this time I had the better judgment and very good luck in asking this lovely empath the way . She stayed by my side for much of the day and we enjoyed a platonic day out together. She had just popped out to do shopping at a local Aldi and never got there because of meeting me !!. This didn't phase her and when it got to lunchtime ( our initial.meeting has been as early as about 10am that morning ) I offered to pay for our lunch together at this restaurant , the subject of my review. We talked at length over tasty burgers. Mine was a Mexican style , hers more a standard cheese burger from memory. The setting was ideal for us .. very empty actually . The staff had the good grace to not interrupt us much ! .. must emphasise this was not a romantic encounter but just a lovely , friendly and spontaneous one. UNO restaurant played its part in being an excellent setting without being spectacular in anyway but the staff were suitably polite , the food good and although the atmosphere may have proven too quiet for some , if had been ideal for us. As I've already intimated its thanks to UNO to have provided this setting and contributed to a most magical day out to the jewel of Teesside , as I once christened it ( that's YARM obvs !...
Read moreTravelled here from London for a Christmas meal with friends on a Friday evening. If you want a proper Italian dining experience this is NOT the place to come. The manager/owner's approach is clearly to pile the customers in, provide some food and keep the drink flowing. Don't get me wrong, the staff are very pleasant and helpful, and food is properly cooked and tender....think Harvester with a hint of italian. But the food served does not always match the description or photos in the menu, it's what they think it should be, and the manager/owner argues with you when you query what you're served. Also if you have a genuine medical requirement (e.g. diabetes) there is no interest in accomodating you, the customer is clearly being difficult...after much 'debate' I got the only option reluctantly offered, 4 strawberries and (sweet!) squirty cream!!! With different management I'm sure the staff would have more job satisfaction and the public would get a good Italian restaurant. As it stands it's a place to go after a few beers to just get some food to satisfy the beer munchies. Gave 2 stars because at least the staff were pleasant and the food was passable. (PS: hope you like food with...
Read moreI'm sorry but this was the most unauthentic Italian food I have had possibly in my entire life. Penne Salsiccia sauce was just an overcooked pasta in the thinnest, most watery sauce I have ever tasted and resembled more a Heniz Tomato Soup than sauce. Absolutely no taste. Terrible. They serve the most massacred version of carbonara I have ever seen in my life and try to get away with it. Since when 'creamy white wine sauce with garlic onion and bacon' has anything to do with a carbonara? I mean, you should not be able to get away with this in this day and age. Guanciale, eggs, pecorino and black pepper. How hard can it be? My colleague had chicken Alfredo and it was equally bad. More a soup than pasta. Nobody in that kitchen has ever been to Italy. I'm not local so wasn't aware that it's just a chain in Teesside so possibly my own fault but there's really no excuse to put out such a bad food in such a lovely area. Genuinely feel sorry for local people who spend their hard earned cash there believing they are experiencing Italian cuisine. It has virtually nothing in common with Italian food.
Can't blame the service though. Friendly and efficient. Zero issues...
