Nice fairly large pub. Serves a small but varied selection of local real ales, as well as an extensive menu of different gins and tonics. They also do food, but not all day so check times in advance. The pub is open to families at lunchtime and has a large beer garden with play area. They accept cards including amex, have free WiFi, and a large car park. Enjoyed our visit, seems like a good destination for the local community!

It was a disappointing Christmas lunch. The staff were lovely, very friendly and helpful. The atmosphere was good but, unfortunately, the food was very disappointing. I would rank it as a below par Sunday lunch. The free tea, coffee and mulled wine were a nice touch, as was the present of peppermint candy canes, but the food was a big let down.

The Walnut Tree is a modern pub. There's a nice lounge and a rear bar with TVs showing sports. There's a wide no pool table or dart board. Does a variety of beers lager and cider, but sadly, no hand pulled cask conditioned real ales. The staff are friendly and welcoming and there is a large outside beer garden with a covered area.

On Sunday, my wife’s birthday our two sons and grandchildren came across from the North West for lunch. I booked the reservation for 5/6 adults and two children on Tuesday 2nd. March. As we entered a young inexperienced waitress showed us to our table and l asked her if she could arrange a drink or cake with a sparkler in as a special silly drink for my The table was set for six and we had to wait around while the waitress squashed onto the one table. We ordered lunch and with my wife and two sons favourite being roast potatoes l asked for an extra two portions, unfortunately the waitress came back and said they hadn’t got enough potatoes for this request. This was 14.30, one and a half hours before the lunch period was supposed to finish. Eventually the meal arrived which was barely warm, there was one bowl of vegetables between five adults and two children which just added to the disappointment at the time. I decided to speak to the acting manager and express my disappointment on what was supposed to be a special occasion. On the issue of the roast potatoes how much would it have cost the pub to cook an extra half tray of roast potatoes, they knew there would be at least five/six adults and two children, he apologised and said it wasn’t good enough, each person had three small pieces of potatoes, it was embarrassing. On the issue of the food not being hot, he said l should have mentioned it and he could have got it reheated. I must say l don’t expect a professional business to reheat my food in a microwave, surely its a basic requirement of any main meal that is hot when it reaches the table. Finally, my wife never received the sparkler in the drink or cake, there again it’s hardly surprising. The bill was over £110 with drinks and we all left still feeling hungry. Living in Heworth this is my first experience of the Walnut Tree and l’m afraid it will be my last. It seemed like it was all about maximum profit for minimum outlay. Very disappointing, hardly a...

Been frequenting this place for many years however on my last visit I met the "karen" behind the bar. Flat out refused to serve me for calling her out on only serving one side of the bar, I had been there 10 minutes and not been served even though there was no one else waiting. A gentleman walked in and round to the rear bar where she served him straight away. When I asked the lady if she was serving on the side of the bar I was at she scowled at me and said "I'm not serving you" excuse me?? What type of customer friendly attitude are they allowing to run this pub? This was the blonde lady with glasses. Won't be going back until this rude inconsiderate member of staff has been removed. She has no pjace in the customer service industry treating customers in this way. I might add this was 12:00 lunch time and I went for lunch not alcohol. Off her rocker.

So in reply your response above I can guarantee that no voices were raised what so ever, as I explained above I calmy and quite simply asked if there was any service at the side of the bar where I had been stood for around 10 minutes. I was definitely first as I watched the other gentlemen walk in. The lady serving got it wrong and then decided to kltake her frustration out on me by saying "I'm not serving you" how on earth is this acceptable in a public house???, it's disgraceful behaviour.

You can add lying to your skill set...

6 of us called for lunch one Wednesday. We arrived 11.00 am and ordered food at 12 (time food started). We were told there was no rump steak for the mixed grill so could either have extra chicken or gammon, that was ok, I was just really looking forward to some black pudding .

On the menu it said burgers were served with salad. Everybody asked where the salad was ... apparently the 3 tiny bits under the burger WAS the salad.

The actual meals were all overcooked and the food dry, even the garden peas ! And to top it off .... no black pudding! When asked, I was told they had run out of that too, so would I like something else, I ordered a side portion of onion rings. Big mistake .... burnt offerings ! Shouldn't have bothered. Totally disappointed with the meal after looking forward to it for some time. I did give the guy behind the bar my feedback about all 6 meals being overcooked and all he could say was sorry. I'm hoping this is just a one off but I won't be...
