Heworth Plaice — Local services in Great Britain

First impressions are everything for me and I gotta say that it really wasn't good here! We ordered through Just eat and were all really looking forward to this meal given how hungry we all were. We ordered 2 fish and chips with curry sauce sides. 2 large battered sausages, a portion of large chips, and 2 large mushy peas. The meal cost nearly £45. We were sent only 1 of the 2 sausages, and 1 of the 2 peas. To make matters worse the one sausage we did receive was inside the large chips.... If we had wanted a sausage and chips meal we would have ordered that. My mother is a vegetarian so having a sausage in with her chips is not acceptable, and not what we ordered. I then also had to go without my peas as my mother's meal would have been totally tragic as just a portion of chips without her peas. So that's me as the payer without the sausage and peas I'd ordered for myself. The receipt that came with our food was correct so why wasn't the order?It's not hard to check the food as you're bagging it up. You actually ruined my tea, and my mother had to eat chips that had been sat with a sausage. You need...

After reading reviews, I expected to be blown away. Both the fish and chips were of good quality. The chips were actually really nice and a great potato choice. The fish itself was good but the problem was with the batter. It was prepared too thick, not allowing it to cook through, so I was left with a layer between the fish and batter of stodgy, raw flour. Its a shame as the flavour of it was spot on, just too thick so wasn't able to cook through.

Service was excellent, the chap behind the fryer was fantastic with all customers and clearly had 100s of regulars as he knew everyone by name. Greeting every customer individually with a smile, which was great to see.

Other than my quibble with the batter, which by the looks of the reviews, was a one off - I will probably try again.

I drove all the way across town for fish & chips from Heworth Plaice because they so good when I last had them six months ago. I had to wait 20 minutes to get served (only three people in front of me), but that was OK because I knew they’d be worth waiting for. What a major disappointment. The fish was burnt—half of it was dry and chewy, the rest of it was completely inedible, quite literally. They were the worst fish & chips I’ve ever had—EVER, and I’ve eaten a lot of fish & chips in my time. I definitely will not be...
