The Black Lion is a lovely pub on Epping High Street and has a car park at the rear with ample parking for customers of the pub. There are two bars one is a little smaller than the other The smaller bar has a tv that shows sport on it. I cannot comment on the food as we only had a couple of drinks. We both had Guiness which well poured and a lovely drink. The staff were friendly and professional. Plenty of places to sit wth small tables and high tables in the small bar and lots of tables in the larger bar. As i said i cannot comment on the food but from what I saw it was typical of a High Street pub and was reasonably priced . The pub itself was well kept and very clean Also the toilets were well kept and clean which i think is a sign of a public house that is well looked after by the owners. I will return to The Black Lion maybe for a lunchtime pint and something to eat from their menu. Watch this space for an update for The Black Lion. I visited early evening on a Thursday and the pub was busy but not crowded so it was comfortable...

We noticed there was an outdoor area, so we sat outside - the lady working in the bar kindly came out and put the electric roof up for us, as well as the heaters. The drinks prices were pretty good in comparison to where else we could have ended up in town (we made use of the shot offers!) and there was a good variety to choose from.
Don't let this pub put you off from what it looks like from outside (it's an old pub, so it sort of makes sense it doesn't look all new), and from our experience the service from the lady working in the bar was great. At some point I may pop back and make use of their 'buy a pint and get a sandwich for...

The pub is said to be the oldest in the town and if the highwayman Dick Turpin passed through Epping he probably dropped in at the Black Lion too. The pub consists of two parts, and one of them has been modernised. I prefer the old bar, with its big fireplace, wooden floor and oak beams. Books can be found on a shelf above the fireplace. It’s a relaxing place with friendly chatter between...
