Terrible experience with this place. We had arrived in excitement looking forward to try a waffle and crepe for me and my husband. The entire service was very very slow. It took about 16 minutes to serve something realistically should have taken a lot less time. Regardless when we were served we had mentioned that it took a long time to the server and he just smiled without even understanding what was said. Once he left, the lady came out shortly after and asked us if everything was okay as the server said there was a complaint. So we said the same thing to her that it took a very long time and instead of apologising to us, she got defensive and said 'you can check the timer if you want' 'I kept an eye on the timer and it didn't take half an hour it took 16 minutes'. To which i responded 'that's a very long time?!' I told her our previous visit was very much the opposite- the waiter who brought us our dessert (we ordered the exact same waffle and crepe) presented it beautifully and with an ingredient that was not present this time.This time it was a little different. Nevertheless we said its okay and that we were just a little surprised at the time it took. I don't know whether it was because it was a different employee preparing the desserts in the back compared to our last visit but the lady's response to what we had mentioned to her was shocking and of poor customer service. There are certain things you can say to a customer that would have been good gesture but to get defensive to a customer for simply stating the obvious is quite embarrassing! Restaurant was empty when arrived and we were sat at a table surrounded by dirty dishes etc. which I had to ask to be cleared after at least 30 mins of sitting surrounded by them.
Afternoon tea came out and no Gabby’s Dollhouse references at all… when questioned it was pointed out that there were stickers on the box cover however these were not Gabby’s Dollhouse and looked like someone had just bought them from the pound shop and haphazardly stuck them on…at least it gave us a little laugh.
Had to ask for plates and more than the one napkin given. Realised part way through that sauces ordered weren’t provided nor were we provided with cream for scones. Queried both and response was that I had got the toppings ordered and only when I challenged further was there an admission that these had been forgotten.
Queried why also not given cream and told was given margarine instead! Not acceptable.
Could have been fair value for money without an attempt to brand it as something it was not, and if overall the service had not been so dire.
All of these issues were communicated politely and calmly especially as we were with a 6 year old and did not wish to further spoil this experience for her. No offer of partial refund for poor service or margarine cream substitute so left very disappointed. Sadly would not return based on this experience.
Judging by unprofessional replies to other negative reviews I look forward to receiving their reply no doubt trying to infer some...

That all out of the way, I find going here frustrating! The service is so slow, and it needn’t be! Consider what they’re doing, scooping ice cream, cutting cake and mixing shakes. I’m not waiting for Michelin star avante garde cuisine, and yet I’m waiting for 15 minutes minimum whilst Deliveroo orders go out the door and people who arrive after me with more complicated orders are served, it’s infuriating!
I watched the operation behind the counter and I honestly do not think most of the staff are there on merit, they look lost! The young lady on the till is efficient, and in the end had to pick up the slack of the food prep staff to complete my order, she’s really let down by the other staff who seem comically incompetent. I feel terrible for her, and I should have taken cash out of my pocket and tipped her for her heroism, she really has to tolerate a lot and does it with dignity… I would be fuming if I had to work with these guys myself.
There’s an arrogance to having service this poor, in no way do they deserve our hard earned money. A treat like this should be a joyful experience, it shouldn’t raise your ire, the conversation shouldn’t just be about how terrible the service is, how consistently poor the service is!
So, a star for having some vegan choices and a star for employee at least one person who has understood...
