The food is very nice however make sure you check your orders before you leave! Including opening up the boxes to check items. Speak very loudly so that they hear you too because for tge last 5 consecutive times i have had take away food, something has been wrong. Two of those times we got home before realising. And we don't exactly live close. The eat in section is ok but when we went in they made us order food seperate from the takeaway section next door to go with our meals and by the time we had begun eating our food, we had to ask where the rest is. They had completely forgot. We had to pay seperate for the food next door and never got our change. All be it itwas 30p but they took our money and completely forgot to do anything for it! Ironically today when i went in, somebody came in and said their order was wrong earlier and they came for the missing items . Very inconvenient when you sit down to ear as a family and someone goes without. So I'm not the only one. Today my order was wrong too and although i checked the boxes, i didn't check what was in them. So 4 times now, i have not got what i paid for. They seem to have a very simple ordering system and i can't understand why this happens so often. Yes they will correct it, but when you live so far away, you dont fancy travelling all the way back, to go and get one thing! My wife found George's whilst looking for somewhere open to eat a late lunch. Found it to her quiet with one other couple eating. We went into the restaurant side and was greeted with a warm welcome and immediately taken to a table. The restaurant area was very clean and clearly maintained to a high standard. The toilets were the same, clean and well maintained. I found the menu to be quite small with limited options. Wasn't an issue as I wanted fish and chips. My wife ordered the Scampi and for myself, the Cod and chips. We both ordered mushy peas and tartar sauce. Our food was delivered quickly to the table. It was obviously fresh and very hot, all looked great. The chips were perfectly cooked, clearly in fresh, clean oil, the fish again cooked perfectly in a nice thin, crispy batter. My wife enjoyed the Scampi, however couldn't manage to finish it all. We were advised by the staff member that half, smaller portions can be made. The mushy peas are, by far, the best around!!!! Took me back to seaside holidays as a child and adult with my family. My only criticism is the tartar sauce, I found it to be Dill heavy, with not enough gherkins.(still tasted nice though) Overall, left thoroughly impressed with everything. Best chippy in ilkeston. However the competition is thin. Its just been newly kitted out.

The lunchtimes specials are good value. I do like the addition of the mushy pea fritters. Homemade fish cakes not as good as they used to be, neither are the chips.

However since my last review, I have noticed a definite sharp improvement. I went in before close a couple weeks back. To my delight, the last fish was still fresh and perfectly cooked.

I haven't had a soggy chip in weeks. Im thrilled as theres nothing worse than a soggy chip. Curry seems to have changed mind you. A bit thin and lacking flavour. Peas have improved in my opinion. Perhaps it's just me.

Thankyou George's ilkeston team for your approach. You are always extremely polite and welcoming. Apart from one young lady who never seems the have a please for my hard earned cash that pays her wages.

Sorry but that's a pet hate of mine especially in the world we live in today where manners seem to be excluded from service. I work in a service industry and wouldn't dream of asking for payment without manners. It's wrong on a number of levels.

Nevertheless you all do a fantastic service and I am so pleased you have made such improvements in such short time period. Thanks for listening.
