My husband and I came for a roast after a friend recommended it. We genuinely could not fault anything! The food was really delicious, generous and it felt like the chefs had thought about every extra detail. We could really taste their passion and love in the dishes we tried. My husband had the beef roast and I had some pork, lamb and beef called the Ox Roast. The roast came with buttery creamy mash, perfectly roasted vegetables, spiced red cabbage, stuffing, Yorkshire pudding and delicious gravy. The meat was tender and my husband said it was like theyâd given him thick slices of steak! The dessert was the apple tart with meringue which had also been recommended by my friend. It was faultless. The pastry was delicate and short, the apples were soft, and the caramel was buttery and moorish with salted cream which I couldâve eaten a bucket of. Completely inspired. My husband and I had dessert at La Gavroche a couple of years ago and this dessert trumps the Michelin star dessert by a mile. The service was fantastic too. As soon as we walked in, we were met by friendly warm staff. We didnât have to wait to order drinks or extras as the waitresses were attentive but not overly so as to feel claustrophobic. Absolute little gem of a place! We will definitely be going back as soon as possible, and taking some friends with us too. Thankyou you all so much. You deserve every...
Read moreOver the years I have been a fair few times to the Durham Ox, every time has been a great experience.
This last time was for fathers day with my son, we booked in last minute (literally) and they squeezed us in. We were seated as soon as we got there, drinks brought to our table and the food we ordered was timely.
As always the food was lovely, we had a great meal. The whole place was packed with people having a good time.
It was at the end when I found out that it has recently been taken over. The new owner had popped over to see if we had enjoyed the meal.
The new owner stated that they are in the process of making some great changes including a new garden terrace, a private function room and they will be refurbishing the entire restaurant and opening it up more so that it's not a series of smaller areas.
It all sounds great and should really help put them on the map of Ilkeston as a go to restaurant. Looking forward to seeing...
Read moreRestaurant is First Class, the staff even BETTER. Booked a table for three at 19.00 [11/10/2018], Birthday treat for me [67], first time here - it won't be the last. The Durham Ox is 'Country Pub/Restaurant' - a real jewel in a somewhat deprived area, the atmosphere/ambiance when you walk in is a pleasant surprise, what you'd expect in a more affluent area. Roaring fire/furnished like a 'Coaching-in' and 'Chav' free. We had Three Courses each, the Quality/Content was excellent, even my wife enjoyed them, with No Reservations. Value for money? 100% YES. Best of all the STAFF, from the moment we walked in the door to be greeted by a mature/professional lady - made us feel very welcome/spoilt. Her colleague - (a young guy with glasses) equally experienced and professional was our table 'host' for the night. Faultless/Perfect experience/Superb menu's. We'll be...
