This gem of an establishment offers the perfect spot for locals and visitors alike to gather, whether it's for a casual drink or a sumptuous meal.
The moment you step into The Lord Nelson, you'll be welcomed by an enchanting atmosphere, with its exposed wooden beams, charming nautical decor, and cozy nooks perfect for intimate conversations. The ambiance is a delightful mix of traditional and modern, reflecting Topsham's rich maritime history while offering a touch of sophistication.
The menu showcases a fantastic selection of British favorites and innovative dishes, highlighting the finest locally sourced ingredients. I was particularly taken by the delectable fish and chips, featuring a light, crispy batter and perfectly cooked, flaky fish. Paired with the homemade tartar sauce and golden, hand-cut chips, it was a taste of Topsham that I won't soon forget.
For those looking for something a bit different, their seasonal specials are a delightful surprise. On my visit, I enjoyed a beautifully presented vegetarian dish that demonstrated the chef's creativity and commitment to satisfying diverse palates.
No visit to a British pub would be complete without a diverse and expertly curated selection of beverages, and The Lord Nelson does not disappoint. With an impressive array of local ales, ciders, wines, and spirits, there's something for everyone to enjoy. The knowledgeable staff were more than happy to suggest perfect pairings for our meals, adding to the overall enjoyment of the evening.

Read moreFood was absolutely amazing but the guy on front of house a little 'nonchalant'. Our main waiter was excellent, nothing too much bother and very friendly. But occasionally we did get served by the front of house. Everything seemed a bother and he wasn't interested in making conversation. I know realistically that bar/pub staff probably aren't that interested in small talk but it's good customer service. My partner ordered the steak, which he said was excellent. The steak came with chunky chips and he asked for it to be replaced with fries if that wasn't too much of a bother. We rarely complain about anything I might add, we are not Karens! But the dude acted as though it was a real hassle. When the food arrived my partner had the chunky chips AND fries. Blimey, talk about carb overload. The front of house guy came over at various intervals to ask us if we wanted more drinks. Again, that's great! But when we ordered more his behaviour was as though it was a hassle. Fortunately, our main waiter was absolutely lovely. We...

The food was easily better than most other pub food out this way, the drinks were cold and tasted FRESH, which is a rare commodity anywhere near Exeter when it comes to family pubs... but all of that is nowhere near as important as the customer service I've seen, they even went out of their way to accommodate a patron with a health condition who was struggling pretty badly with fighting it.
I have yet to see another pub anywhere in Devon who will accommodate for somebody struggling to keep their head stable for medical reasons. Every other one I've been to has just brandished the friend in question as too drunk and kicked him to the streets despite the fact this guy doesn't drink.
Absolutely outstanding. I cannot express just how much I would recommend coming here, it has literally everything you'd want in a family pub. Bravo,...
