We wanted to sit in a particular spot which we did but the table was dirty, there were no menus etc and one of the upholstered chairs was torn with the foam stuffing showing through. We got a drink and looked through the menu, it was advertising Steak Thursday so we opted for that, I went up to the bar to order and after giving the barman our table number I asked politely if he would be able to clean our table before the food arrived. He just stared at me with a look of pure disdain and when I asked him what was wrong he said - well I'll have to take your order first - I said I didn't mean for him to clean it right this second? So then I asked for the steaks and he replied - we've got no steaks, I said - isn't this Steak Thursday? He replied - yeah well they've been very popular and we've sold out! No information about what was available and what wasn't, no apology, just this look again as if it was my fault for asking. He had no people skills, he didn't smile or make eye contact, he was rude and impolite and it came as quite a shock after experiencing amazing service at pubs in Titchfield village, not far from Stubbington. It was 7pm, they stop serving food at 9pm so that's 2 hours of staff telling customers that there were no steaks on Steak Thursday. Our table was eventually cleaned about half an hour later, so we decided to sit at another table away from the bar. My son went up and ordered our food, before it came out a guy called Matt came to apologise and explain that one of the starters we'd ordered wasn't available and shouldn't have been put through. Then when our meals came one of them was completely different to the description on the menu. Matt apologised again and offered a refund and a complimentary drink, which was very fair and very decent of him. So all in all a very disappointing experience and one which we will not be taking a chance on by eating there again. If it hadn't been for Matt, we would've left much sooner, but he did all he could to try and make things better so...
Read moreAfter using this pub regularly for over 14 years I have to now report some bad event which I put squarly on the shoulder of the Tennant owners. Today 5th July 2024 my wife and I wanted a relaxing time together. My phoned around 0930 in the morning asked if we could book a table for 5 o'clock and we actually placed our order there and then a selected our table. On arrival our table had not been reserved but fortunately was empty. My wife and I stood at the counter and we together pointed out the issue of the table in the nicest of manners ,ordered our drinks and stated that we had basically already ordered our food requirement but repeated our dual order once again and paid. Half an hour later one serving of food only arrived! On challenging what was going on the girl said she would check, on return she said only one meal was ordered. We suddenly became uneasy, things were not looking good especially after our efforts. I immediately assumed the barman had made an error which basically he had, there were two customers surely it was obvious why did he not repeat the order back or offer a receipt? The waitress left the table and when back to the kitchen, when she next returned and said another was being made I told her to take what was on the table away and retun it as a complete order. Next my wife and I were approached by some strange looking very aggressive looking person in somewhat rather dirty apparral demanding why I have made his waitress cry! I asked why what had I done and he could not give me an answer, he was to a point extremely rude and had a threatening Air about his personality and he said he would not serve us. I asked to see the manager to which he replied HE WAS! My wife became most upset as well as I, by now the whole incident was starting to overspill around the pub with people taking sides. We d3cided to leave. Sadly we will never return after all these years. The owners tennents possibly were at fault to start with followed by extremely,inexperienced...
