The Old Volunteer — Restaurant in Gedling

Haven’t been to the Old Vol for a few months. The food was nice, The rest of the party thought their meat could’ve been better. Nicely decorated, helpful waiter. Unfortunately, like other reviews have pointed out from the minute you walk in you are warned of the time you have limit on your table, we were reminded many times but were served quite promptly, although it was in the back of my mind that we needed to keep within their timeframe. We had three courses and managed all but teas & coffees. We were asked to move into the bar which was fine. Unfortunately 20 minutes later the drinks hadn’t arrived and we were told that we only had a few minutes at the bar table before it was needed for a booking. Cracking night at the "old vollo". Sunday is quiz night. Arrived at 8 and bagged the last table, so really busy but not in a bad way.

The beers on tap were from a range of ales, from Flipside to Magpie plus a range of others. Pork pies were also available.

Seems like there's music on Saturdays and judging by the atmosphere at the quiz I bet it's a cracking night.

Medium car park with room for about 10 cars. Plenty of seating inside and outside too.

Toilets looked clean.

Generally a "proper" pub. Not many of them...

Worst meal ever! They said on the sign home made food... well they served us pork pies! And they were stone cold! And it took them 15 minutes to serve us... we where si hungry and that is why we stayed. With pickled onions and mustard! And that was 15.85 for just 2! Then my son was still hungry so ordered another one they charged me 7.45! We are talking about pork pies here! with chips this time and after waiting 25 minutes the chips were too late we already ate the pies... horrible atmosphere and just not...
