I was asked for money to buy breakfast this morning, but rarely carry cash so offered instead to buy breakfast on my card. The person was well presented and coherent. However the man behind the till immediately took against the person I was with and with a look of pure disgust on the his face indicated that the person would have to take his breakfast outside. I said he would not and was going to sit inside, Bristol Road is not a place to leisurely sit outside, enjoy the scenery/atmosphere and watch the world go by. Having to leave the person to their own devices as I had a day of training, I left feeling that as soon as I was gone they would force this person outside.
The cafe was empty when we arrived and with no-one else on the road was highly unlikely to have had other diners before the person I took in there was finished.
I have no proof and I may be wrong, I hope I am wrong, regardless his treatment and derision of this diner was appalling. Since when are homeless or vulnerable people not people and deserve to be treated in such a manner? This could well have been a friend or family member who had lost their wallet or...
