Went in for a meat platter for Valentine's day, me and the Mrs don't really go out all that much due to other commitments and well.. money but thought let's treat ourselves. Booked a pick up for 8 online and once the child was in bed, I headed out to get there on time.
Upon arrival, I gave the chap my order number once he got off the phone and was told they were just getting it ready... By the time I got my food it was a good half hour. There's a real problem with every delivery driver coming in to pick food up and they seem to be a priority over the customers coming in themselves, unfortunately this is the norm across any food place now.
Hastily grabbing my bag and heading out the door I eventually made it home to open the bag and look at the tiny box I just payed £40 for.. me and the Mrs both thought, is that it?. We were missing our coleslaw and other fresh bits we were supposed to get and as I live a half hour drive away, I didn't want to go back and I sure as heck wasn't standing around again just to get some coleslaw, pickles etc.
Was the box filled? Yes it was but a vast majority of the meat is all pulled varieties of chicken beef and pork which.. I don't even remember tasting pork in there. There's no ribs in there either.. which in my opinion is a must in a box like this. We were supposed to get 4 belly bits and there was only 3 and the chicken wings were extremely dry and just tasted like oil but I used my chosen dip and made them bearable.
The sausage is just a sausage and there isn't much special about it in comparison to something youd get from a cafe and the chicken thighs was tough to eat as the skin again was extremely hard.. it's no wonder these things have to be smothered in a sauce. I will say though, everything else tasted good, bar the chicken.
All in all.. we felt a bit ripped off by what we had received for £40. This isn't our first meat platter from a smoker, just a few miles away in Quedgley, we payed £62 for a sharing platter and we were provided with so much better tasting varieties of meat, and abundance of sides and chips as standard oh and ribs too, agree it's slightly higher price but it's worth every penny, something I can't say about the box from the society. Now yes I could have asked for chips with the one from the society but if the portion was anything to go by with the Mac and cheese and other side.. I'd imagine we would have received a small handful.
This isn't the first time we've felt disappointed by this place. We've gone in for burgers and they are sub par and again not worth the price tag stamped on them. You MUST order an extra patty because the meat to bun ratio is ridiculous.. you're effectively eating bread with a dash of beef.. you're easily put off by the price of an extra patty though at £3.50.. which is the cost of a 4 pack of quarter pounders from the supermarket.
Now would we go back for the food.. yeah I guess as the flavours are ok but.. the price is absolutely not worth what you're getting and for that reason we would struggle to even contemplate...

Ā Ā Ā Read moreSo glad to have a proper burger place in Gloucester. It was a little funny finding the place on an industrial estate but my gosh it was so worth it. They were super friendly and welcoming, cool design of the hidden gem, and an open kitchen so you can see the magic happen for yourself.
We were blown away by the quality and portions of our takeaway last night. We tried the thick shake (Biscoff) in the car home and both looked at each other in disbelief of how nice it was!!! The packaging was such good quality that it was all still piping hot when we got home 15 minutes later after collecting.
Both of our burgers (OG beef and Nashville chicken) were perfection and so were the dirty fries (Poutine and chilli cheese). I already canāt wait to go back again and itās pretty rare for me to say that for a takeaway.
If I had to clutch at straws I would say that the buns could maybe be toasted ever so slightly more. One of our buns was gluten free which is never going to be as nice no matter what, but it was a very good gluten free roll. Thank you for our amazing takeaway and...
