Bobby’s Italian Restaurant — Restaurant in Gosport

We thought we would try Bobby's out for dinner. Booked on the telephone with no problems. Arrived and our order for drinks and starters was taken fairly promptly. Things started slowing down from there. Once our starters were cleared away there was a wait for our main course. I was offered black pepper and parmesan, and the comedy oversized pepper mill did it's job but the parmesan arrived in one of those little disposable paper thimbles that can be found in McDonald's for ketchup. A disappointing surprise. It then took a while for our plates to be cleared. We attracted the attention of the young girl who was serving and clearing, and asked for our bill. A little disappointed to see her reappear a little with plates for another table. Eventually another member of staff presented our bill but not before she offered us the dessert menu. Again there seemed a disproportionate wait before she reappeared with the card machine. We settled up and left.

The food was fine - tasty, and comfortable portions - no complaints about that, and the staff were friendly enough. Prices were reasonable and the menu had a varied selection. The service was slow and on a busy Saturday night it would be better to have more than 2 waiting staff, only one of which seemed to be taking orders and payments. This is the best Italian restaurant I have been to. In fact it's the best place we have eaten out in a long time. We arrived late in the evening (21.10) and the staff were friendly and more then happy for us to eat (we are used to rude staff who want to close down early) the staff especially the young lady with brown hair, were really friendly and welcoming, they didn't rush us at all and were very attentive, helpful and polite. The restaurant itself has a lovely feeling to it and the menu is great, not to extensive, but still plenty to choose from. When the food arrived it was beautifully presented, and it was delicious! The flavours were amazing. It's so nice to not have bland food that is just okay. It really was so tasty, I couldn't have made it better myself. We will definitely be back, even if it is 45 minutes away, it's worth the journey for the delicious food and fantastic service....

Best restaurant we have found since leaving Surrey. We came in for lunch today on a whim and found a hidden gem. Ignore the whining twit comments about paper recepticals and slow service etc. Nonsense - good food takes time and these people know their stuff and produce excellent food not just good and we are really fussy 5 star eaters. Excellent menu, choices of pizza, pasta and specials. Slightly more limited on burgers and steaks but hey they are an Italian restaurant so why should they have loads of these. Good wine menu, kids and dessert menu. I don't usually write any reviews I read them and often won't visit an establishment if ratings are low, but felt compelled this time to rate as the food was so good, and service excellent.
