The New Bengal Indian Restaurant — Restaurant in Gosport

Wow. I mean... wow. I'm a massive fan of indian food (take a look at my reviews) and I will try every single indian outlet I can. The New Bengal gets a solid 5 star rating and is the single, most delicious indian food I've had to date. Ordered in (because we're Covid positive right now and self isolating) on a Thursday evening via their website, a lamb madras for me and a paneeri karma for her with keema rice to share and onion bhaji and pops. Food was with is un short order and piping hot - always a good start! Unfortunately, she couldn't taste hers because she's lost the sense of taste and smell. I on the other hand have full olfactory and taste bud sensory capacity - and oh boy am I glad I do. The madras sauce was sumptuously rich and with an absolutely perfect flavour, and filled with succulent pieces of perfectly cooked lamb which almost melted in the mouth without barely the need to chew. The keema rice complimented the curry with the gorgeous lamb mince and rice bringing the pilau flavour. The onion bhaji was a delicious crispy, chewy compliment, perfectly seasoned and the crunchy pops adding the extra mouth feel. Absolutely gorgeous.

I know this review sounds like a fanboy's wet dream, but if you haven't tried this restaurant or had a delivery I suggest, urge, you to try it. Even if you have tried it before, or you've seen a bad review (I haven't looked) or been told not to, give it a try. I go to LOTS and LOTS of indian restaurants and have LOADS of indian take out, and The New Bengal in Gosport has just taken the top slot and I will definitely be ordering again or going to eat in.

Mac - the owner, and Shamah - the waiter (I hope I have spelt both correctly) are the absolute life and soul of this restaurant. I would recommend takeaway because the food is absolutely incredible but I think the service here is my favourite part of the experience. Dress like a king or wear your shorts and flip flops, it doesn't matter, each of these gentlemen will treat you like the most important person in the room. I have been in to eat twice and I would (and often do) recommend this place to anybody that will listen. New Bengal is the pinnacle of high Street Indian restaurants and especially so in Gosport. Was hoping to get here a few months ago, but Chuck blew me out so I never got here (i've not heard from him since). Finally came here with Davo after he saw how heart broken I was.

We turned up unannounced and asked for a table for 2 and were told to wait 15 minutes (so we nipped to the 4 Ale tap rooms for a 2 sharpners ) then returned. And were thanked for returning. 1st class service although the Moosh serving us was slightly difficult to understand. We got poppadoms to start with the had, Chicken tikka masala, Chili chicken masala, mushroom rice, coconut rice, peshwari naan, garlic naan and a side of onion bahjis. Absolutely first class. The chicken was extremely moist and tender.

If i could fault it. Well I'd have liked my first time to have been with Chuck. Mainly as I'd have been here a few months earlier. Dave was good company and it would have been even better if it had been my 2nd time here instead...
