Before leaving a review I tried to get in contact with the seahorse. My message was ignored. I went in last week on crutches having snapped the ligaments in my ankle. I must admit I was quite shocked by the lack of a disabled toilet- something I have never really paid attention to before. Having finally managed to navigate the two doors to get into the toilet, I discover there is only 1 as the other was out of action. There is VERY little space in that toilet to even get in and shut the door with two able feet, let alone one and some crutches. I have no idea how other disabled people cope. I thought if my grandad, who still goes out in society and used to love coming to the seahorse, but now required assistance toiletting, wouldn't cope. There is no space for him and his limited mobility to get in a cubicle, let alone someone else. Secondly, whilst I was waiting for the single toilet, a younger girl who was working for you tonight came out of the toilet. She apologised for taking her time, and did not wash her hands as she left. Each to their own and perhaps she used alcohol gel when going back behind the bar, but on the way there she will have touched 3 handles with unclean hands in a place that serves food and drinks so I was pretty disgusted if I'm honest. I just wanted to raise these issues so you were aware, to give benefit of the doubt, as I know negative reviews can have such an effect. However, whilst I am on crutches (at least another 11 weeks), I'm not sure we will be able to return. This isn't the first poor experience we have had either. Between Christmas and new year we visited with friends from Australia, there were very few people in that day and food took nearly an hour to arrive. Service at the bar was also very slow- I stood waiting for 10 minutes at least before any staff showed up and was served by an unsmiling, unapologetic...
Read moreEnjoyed a festive lunch for a table of 8 today. I was umming and arring between 3 local eateries and opted for the Seahorse because of the choice in menu. I easily booked the table and paid a deposit a week or so before. Upon arrival, the table was beautifully laid out, with Christmas decorations and crackers, candles and a true Christmas atmosphere with festive music playing in the background. Because we had pre-ordered our food, once drink orders were received, our starters arrived. All of the selection had been well prepared, served precisely and tasted delicious. Our mains came along shortly after, and a few of the party had ordered steaks. They were presented beautifully and cooked to perfection. The onion rings and chips were heavenly, every item on the plate having its own flavour. The salmon was cooked beautifully, with a crispy skin and side dishes full of flavour. Of course we can't forget the Traditional Turkey roast. Succulent and extremely tasty. Dessert did not disappoint. Christmas pudding packed a punch with alcohol, the bread and butter pudding, like home made and the New York cheesecake and Trillion Tart did not disappoint.
The service was excellent throughout, with the staff on hand to take more drink orders and clear the table.
The Seahorse gave excellent value for money, within a beautiful setting, friendly staff and wonderful service.

Read moreI had a burger and chips. The burger was overcooked and dry, and the bun was not fresh. Another member of the group had to send their fish back as it was v small compared to the others, the chef came out and replaced the dish with a much fuller fish though which was good. Service was slow (even though not many were dining at the time) and the drinks were missed until we re asked once the food arrived (oh and cutlery only was put out after all dishes arrived too, so we were all waiting for the slowest dish to arrive before anyone could eat).
Condiments turned up 5 minutes after the food was given even though we asked a few times (7 people and only 1 ketchup tub arrived..enough for 2 people tops, and we asked for more once it was clear that was all was coming). The kids burgers were plain..literally a piece of chicken and a bun, no cheese, no sauce , nothing.
Wasn't a good start either with the waitress telling us "a few" dishes were off due to a busy day..then listed over half the menu (was pretty much, fish and chips ,burgers and tagliatelle left) as being not available which meant half our party had to get something else.
For the price (more expensive than a good gastro pub in outer London) it was a let down visit to Gosport for...
