Unfortunately not a good experience at this pub. Booked a table of 8 for a stag do meal and on arrival we were given a semi circle table that just about fit 6 of us, so we had to grab some extra chairs to seat the rest. Drinks order was taken and delivered to the table, but no glasses provided for the bottled drinks even though we had been asked if we wanted glasses and said yes, (minor). One of the draft bears had strands and bits of something in it so that had to go back. I presume an unclean draft line. We all ordered some food and waited around 45mins before the food starting coming. During this time we tried to order more drinks and it appeared that they were understaffed, (even though it wasn't terribly busy), and that took around 20mins to get served. Food was dreadful. We had several mixed grills on the table, all mentioned that the steak seemed rubbery and most of it was overcooked/tasted reheated. One of my friends had Jerk chicken of which he didn't eat because the chicken was very white and the seasoning looked like it had been dumped on afterwards. After eating I didn't feel very well so I had to use the toilet several times which was pretty untidy and out of toilet roll. (Had to ask for some several times). I was half expecting that the toilet roll was being kept in the fridge...
Read moreHaving used the Hungry horse for a few years now and having had many good experiences unfortunately the same couldn't be said about eating there yesterday. I went out with my family for a birthday meal, the pub was very quiet, we ordered our food at 16:20, at 17:00 the 1st 2 meals were brought out and they were both cold, it was evident that they must have been sat on the side for a long time before being brought over to our table, the waitress apologized and took them away to replace with fresh...the children's meals were ok so they continued to eat. At 17:25 I flagged up to the duty manager that we were still waiting for replacements but unfortunately we only had until 17:50 as we had to take our son to his boys brigade club. The food arrived at 17:35, this time it was acceptable but even rushing to eat we only managed half of it before having to leave. We were refunded for the 2 meals but overall a birthday meal that we were looking forward to was completely ruined, it has put us off using the hungry horse and won't be in a hurry to return. Such a shame that this place has gone downhill like...
Read moreThere’s something oddly impressive about how consistently underwhelming our visit was.
The food was brought to the table… but that’s where the service ended. We were left to get up and find our own cutlery — which might’ve been fine, had it not all been either smudged with fingerprints or bent like someone had tried to eat concrete with it.
Drinks were similarly baffling. A Sex on the Beach arrived missing cranberry juice entirely. Apparently, their version comes with a creative twist: disappointment.
Speaking of which, the staff seemed deeply unhappy to be there, and it showed. Interactions ranged from indifferent to openly snappy. Smiles must be in short supply, and basic politeness appears to be optional.
As for the food — tiny portions, big prices, and flavours so forgettable we had to remind ourselves we’d actually eaten. Not bad enough to complain about, but certainly not good enough to recommend.
Overall, this visit was a strong reminder that ambiance and service matter just as much as the menu. Sadly, none of it was quite...
