Looks like asian food, tastes like british. We were really quite surprised by the food here, given the numerous glowing reviews, but when it came down to it the food was very underwhelming. It did not taste /bad/ per se, but nothing really popped, didn't taste authentic, seemed watered-down to cater to local tastes... tables laid put with knives and forks only pretty much says it all. Complimentary green tea and prawn crackers to start were a nice welcome to the meal. Not exactly mind-blowing fare, but free is free. Kiam-Heung with scallops + egg fried rice, 6/10, at first quite excited for this one, as it came sizzling on the cast iron dish, but it was seriously mediocre. Seafood works best when you can taste its natural flavours, but this was totally replaced by the seasoning of which the only discernable flavours were dark soy and fish sauce. Hot and sour soup, 8/10, the only highlight of the meal for me. Good balance of major flavours, nice heterogeneity with the different cuts of meat. Good level of spice that made this quite punchy. Pad thai, 4/10, terribly bland, I honestly think the chef forgot to add the tamarind, they certainly didn't add nearly enough salt, sugar oil or spice. Were the vegetables parboiled and then warmed through during service? Absolutely no char on anything. Yeah it was edible, but edible alone does not make it to the clean plate club. Chef needs an asthma inhaler if this is what passes for wok hei.

Still one of the best in the area, when it comes to Chinese, Thai & Malaysian food. If you’ve never tried The Tea House, then seriously, get yourself down here for a sit-in, or even a takeaway. The food is always of such a high standard; I don’t think I’ve ever had a meal that didn’t hit the spot. Always hot, packed with flavour and you can tell the quality of the ingredients are the very best. I don’t think you can go wrong here, to be honest, but I do love the Satay items on the menu, whether it’s the Chicken Skewers as a starter or the Skewered Chicken Satay as a main - they nail that peanut sauce! Their Chicken Curry and Kung Po Chicken are also real standouts! You also find Chinese Restaurants never really have great desserts, but The Tea House knocks it out of the park with their Banana Fritter & Ice-Cream. The Ice-Cream, in particular, is so good. If you’ve been here before you’ll know how good this place is, and why it’s always packed with customers. If you haven’t, then get a table booked for their 3 course lunch to try it out. You won’t regret it.

First of all - Thank You We were heading somewhere else for lunch when we saw this place and decided to try something different. I'm so glad we did. The place (even at lunchtime) was packed so I'd advise to book ahead. We didn't but luckily they squeezed us in, turned others that hadn't booked away afterwards. So do book up, even for lunch during the week. The place is well decorated with a contemporary theme, not a Chinese gimmick in sight. Staff were really nice and attentive, they explained the meals well. You got a portion of prawn crackers to nibble on before your food, I don't normally like them but I did these. I started with BBQ spare ribs, they were very tasty, meat tender falling off the bone instead of getting stuck in your teeth. For mains I order the Thai chicken. A breadcrumbs chicken with cucumber onion and a lemongrass based dressing. It was sublime. Cooked to perfection (well done chefs) crispy on outside and tender chicken. The cucumber went perfect with the lemongrass and red onion, it's was a very refreshing taste that melted in your mouth. This is the first time I've been given proper Thai food with the correct balance of flavours that actually compares to my time in Thailand.

There is an extensive drinks list Kids are welcome and get their own selection of "happy meal" which consisted of different thing on a divided plate, filling and tasty in itself. Also they serve the kids main meal at same time as the adults have their starters, this is a nice touch that ensure they won't get bored waiting! Well done Tea House for thinking of the families! Any food you haven't managed to finish, you can take home with you for later or another day in takeaway cartons.

The Tea House made a big impression on us both, we will definitely be back soon, with...
