First time visiting fleet high street and was taken back by the amount of food options available, but checking out a few menus Chennai Express seemed like a good option for some lunch!
On first appearance restaurant had really nice vibe South Indian style felt really authentic also! The menu looked amazing also lots of options and traditional options too. As always we opted for the lunch time menu to maximise value for money and wow this place did not disappoint!
I ordered a chicken tikka masala with a chapati, I’ll start by saying it was served on them one long thin serving plates which as known I hate but soon as I had one taste of that masala sauce all was forgiven wow!!
The masala sauce was rich, had that deep tomato and onion flavour, but also very silky and smooth with that gee finish, also the tikka chicken pieces finally somewhere where u can actually taste the tikka in the curry wow! So many curry’s tried and first time for a long time I actually could taste the different flavour when having the tikka and also that chicken was soft buttery and prefect!
Was served with rice and poppadom both accompanied the dish nicely rice was cooked to perfection as standard! And the chapati also nice thin and crispy too.
This place really is the real deal when taking South Indian a little gem hidden in fleet here!!
Overall score today 9/10 solid! I’m sure this would have scored 10/10 if I tried more...
Read moreMy wife and I have had to travel very far for decent food such as this! But no more! Today was our first time at Chennai Express.
Pros: The Chettinad was a revelation! Perfect blend of aromatic, spicey and tasty. Their chicken tikka masala was exquisite to say the least, very similar to butter chicken. Their rotis: soft and succulent. We also purchased tawa fish, kids chicken nuggets and chips, poppadom tray and plain rice, but these were the highlights of our meal today. And we’ll be returning for sure. Thank you to the staff member for recommending the Chettinad. How I’ve lived 35 years without this dish in my life is a mystery I’ll never figure out. Wish I could’ve taken photos of our meal. Just goes to show how much we enjoyed the meal.
Cons: The tawa fish was okay. Personally I probably wouldn’t purchase again but my wife liked it. I found the fish to be a bit too fishy tasting compared to the customary tilapia or cod. Again, my wife was keen on it so she dug in.
Summary: There really wasn’t much wrong with the meal! Everything was near perfect. Prices are a bit on the steeper end, but it’s justified as the food is very hearty and gives you a warm, fuzzy feeling inside. Great job guys! We will be back, next time for some...
Read moreChennai Express in Fleet is legit South Indian food. My Wife thinks it tastes like home cooked food her family would make for a special occasion in India. We've had take-out which arrived on time and hot, and I've picked up from the restaurant as well (25/05/2025). I arrived at the approximated time and was told the food would be another five minutes. Free half of beer, quiet waiting area by the door, food arrived five minutes later. Perfect.
Although there’s a slight bump/corner to navigate, the restaurant is wheelchair accessible. Small booths and large tables available. Warm lighting, air con and nice interior styling.
Just a minor word of warning, although there are ‘safe’ options (Korma, Mango chicken etc…), some of the food can be pretty spicy for the uninitiated. So if you prefer milder food but still want to try something different, just add a note when ordering. Alternatively if you want the best of both worlds, order as normal but ask for a side of yoghurt or green salad. Or just do what I do and drink lots of beer.
My personal favourite is the home style lamb curry on the bone, but I really want to try the spring lamb chops masala.
We’re planning on visiting for a meal soon, so I’ll update...
