We pop in if we've no time to cook, maybe half a dozen times a year; the breakfasts are often only lukewarm and the tables uncleared and messy but it's quick and cheap so I've never complained, and frankly nobody would take any notice if I did. Yesterday however, I did quietly ask for my breakfast to be put in the microwave for a few seconds because parts of it were not even lukewarm; ok, but .. my wife had finished hers by the time I got mine back, dried to cardboard and, unbelievably, still cold. Obviously microwaved and then left. For some reason. Seconds later a girl did her perfunctory 'all ok?' bit before turning away quickly, I said 'Excuse me miss, but its not actually, this is dried out and still cold'. Unbelievably, her reply was ' It obviously doesn't suit you to eat here, I think you would be happier elsewhere don't you?' ! I was gobsmacked and said I was just answering her question, she said 'Thats not true, you come in here all the time and always complain'. I told her that I hadn't been in for months and had never complained about anything anyway but she insisted I had, just last week! It was like talking to a tubby Basil Fawlty. Finally she realised I wasn't whoever she was thinking of and had to apologise but still insisted I should go elsewhere because my attitude 'intimidated the staff'. I said I'd only spoken to her, hadn't raised my voice, been abusive, or sworn, what on earth was she talking about? She looked flustered and said ' you used the B word' I said ' d'you mean 'bloody'? IF I did, it is not offensive and you are just trying to excuse your behaviour, please give me your name'. She said 'I don't have to give you my name and although you have not raised your voice, you are intimidating me and I think you should eat elsewhere.' My wife was open-mouthed too, I was never less than polite, as ever, and simply said my meal was dry and cold when she asked. That was my Weatherspoons experience yesterday - I have written to the management for what good that will do....
Read moreThe Prince Arthur offers a quintessentially boisterous pub experience that's as lively as it is unpretentious. Known for its rowdy and loud crowd, it's the kind of place where the energy is high, and the volume is turned up, making it perfect for those looking to immerse themselves in a vibrant atmosphere.
One of the pub's biggest draws is its cheap drinks, which keep the spirits high and the conversations flowing. The affordability factor makes The Prince Arthur a popular spot among those looking to enjoy a night out without breaking the bank, ensuring that the fun lasts all night long.
While the pub boasts an abundance of indoor seating, ensuring that there's plenty of room for its lively patrons, it also offers outdoor seating for those who prefer a bit of fresh air. However, given the chilly weather, the outdoor area was less populated, focusing the lively buzz within the pub's walls.
It's worth noting that the bathrooms could use a bit more attention, as they don't quite match the upkeep of the rest of the establishment. This minor drawback, however, does little to dampen the spirited atmosphere that defines The Prince Arthur.
Whether you're drawn by the promise of cheap drinks, the lively crowd, or simply the joy of a classic pub experience, The Prince Arthur delivers on all fronts. It's a place where warmth isn't just found in the atmosphere but also in the camaraderie shared among its patrons, making it a standout choice for a truly...
Read morePeople like to complain about Wetherspoons food: “It’s all microwaved rubbish” etc. but I have always found it to be very good especially for the low price. Huge menu choice and decent portion sizes (apart from the rather paltry side servings of chips!). Better quality and choice (and certainly value) than many upmarket pubs and restaurants.
I recently had the naga chilli half chicken with spicy rice and a side of roasted vegetables and have no complaints at all (the chilli sauce could have been hotter but was nicely flavoured if mild). The breakfasts are good and the steaks and mixed grills are all freshly cooked and decent quality (apart from the very low meat content sausages - these are best avoided!). The inclusion of the calorie count on the menu is helpful and ordering direct to the table using the Wetherspoons app is simple and quick.
Great value drinks with a huge range. The only downside is often the other pub clientele with all the local unemployed and unwashed drunks queueing up at 9am for their first pint of the day then hanging around stretching out their benefit payments until closing, and the rowdy 18 year-olds “pre-drinking”, spilling, shouting and vaping, packing the place on Friday and Saturday evenings before...
