We booked for one night, staying on Christmas Eve whilst visiting family in the area. We only paid £40 for a double room, so didn't expect The Four Seasons, but our stay was a little disappointing. Pro's - The team that work there were friendly and helpful, answering our questions and getting us checked in and settled quickly. Our room (No.1) was spacious enough for a one night stay, with plenty of storage, a big TV and plenty of towels in the bathroom. The check out was effortless and quick. Breakfast was included but we didn't indulge as we were heading to Christmas Lunch. Con's - The decoration and condition of the receptions areas, hallways and rooms is poor. As soon as you walk into the reception, there is pile of masking tape stuck over a patch of ripped carpet. The two reception desks you're greeted with were messy and covered in paperwork and general admin. The room was well presented but not cleaned to a high standard - there was a thick layer of dust on the lamps next to the bed and the heavy fabric curtains. The carpet had been hoovered and appeared clean. The room was double glazed and with the curtains there was little if any noise from outside or the close train station. The bathroom was cleaned, but the toilet stained with obvious use over many years. The taps in the bathroom sink were stiff and being just under the shelf above, difficult to use. The shelf above the sink was broken and the glass sloping forward meaning we couldn't use it to put any of our toiletries on. The shower was small but had good pressure. It was clean, but not sparkling. The shower had a plastic curtain, not a glass partition and the curtain stuck to you in the small shower - very disgusting. The bed was a generous size and the bedding clean - we slept well but we were able to hear EVERYTHING going on in the room next to us, including their toilet habits. The room was great value, and the team there brilliant, but with the cleanliness, facility's and thiness of the walls I wouldn't...
Read moreNice hotel and some friendly staff!! some need more training on customer service, i stayed here for a week from the 15/02/17 to 22/02/17 due to work commitments in the area, a few issues at first on changing rooms but all resolved in the end, food was good and breakfast was good, however the chef could be more flexible in his time keeping and to make sure that for workers breakfast could of been ready perhaps 10 mins earlier!! this would of helped!! the two most friendly helpful members were Kat and Jacob, Kat who was the waitress who was up against the chef and had to keep apologizing for his lateness in the breakfast being on time! but well done to you Kat!!! Jacob who was barman come receptionist was helpful....As for the rest of the staff the younger ones need training, ie: Friday night which was my last night, the waitress was hopeless as she forgot my drink then just came with a bottle no glass! when she did come with a glass it was a pint glass! Really!! why would i want a pint glass when the bottle of Becks was for a half glass! it is little important things that make a difference and as for the rest of the staff they are on another planet and do NOT listen to customers,(apart from Kat and Jacob) Chris the manager was friendly and welcoming helpful as well, however please take note in what your staff tell when there are issues!! As the kitchen is the engine of any hotel and when that works your hotel works! As you are leaving Chris i wish you all the very best in your new venture and hope all goes well for you! Kat keep the good work up and i hope to return...
Read moreI've only ever given the Raven glowing reports in the past 🙂 This time was different though 😪 I've moved up to Derbyshire now, myself and the Wife went back down to Hook to visit my family on Boxing Day ❤️ We had a Dog Friendly Room and we shut the Dogs away 'in their crate' when we went to my Grandparents:- unfortunately we took a bit longer than planned, my Grandad got rushed into Hospital and was diagnosed with Pneumonia.
The fact my Grandad passed away 'on Boxing Day 2018' had nothing to do with the Raven, however, - the fact my Dogs' barked a bit would have been mine and the Wife's fault - the fact we were told we couldn't stay at the Raven and the fact I had to drive over 2 & a half hours home (we got home at 01.26am) was because the Raven chucked us out (after my 84 year Old Grandad got rushed into Hospital & was diagnosed with Pneumonia)
I can understand that our Dogs barking disturbed other guests, like I did on the day, I apologise for that. I cannot believe that the Raven have not refunded me:- after kicking me out and making me drive home 'at 10.30pm' on Boxing Day (when my Grandad got rushed into Hospital).
Like I said in my first sentence, I've only ever had glowing reports about the Raven in the past 🙂 I would happily remove this negative comment 'if I'm refunded(for being made to drive home 'on Boxing Day' at 10.30pm after my Grandad was diagnosed with Pneumonia)'. If I don't receive a refund (I didn't plan for my Grandad to die on Boxing Day), then I'll leave this 'TRUTHFUL'...
